From another forum, makes a scary read, It cant be long before the scrapyards are full of lightly damaged GT-R's that have been totalled if all spares are these sort of prices, Im guessing also a hike in premiums is likely once the Insurance companies wise up

I think it means Nissans already silly parts prices have stepped up into a whole new league with these cars. I think anyone thinking of buying needs to do a bit of research, if its all like this they will soon become un insurable for the common man.

The GT-R really doesn't seem to be a car for the common man. It might be only £55k odd new, but you have to expect bills for a car comfortably two or three times that.

The more I hear about these..............this is an utter bloody disgrace Nissan!!

QUOTE
I consider myself a fairly competent driver, I can drive reasonably quickly on a circuit, and read the road ahead enough to make good progress on the public highway. But I had an accident, and it was all my own doing.

I had a low speed crash into the back of a white van, it was a badly surfaced road, we were stopped, pulled away.... and the person infront of the van stopped for no reason, causing the van to tap the tow bar of the car infront and me in sympathy to do the same to the van.

Ok enough of the excuses, I am posting here to make sure noone makes the same mistake I did. I thought long and hard about posting this, but i think it is important that other GT-R owners see this so they aren't stung by a careless accident and the GT-R Tax!

I bumped into tho the white vans tow bar causing this small crack in my bumper...

Unfortunately it also set off the Pedestrain Saftey system, where the bonnet pops up....

Which is a one use system....

You need to replace the bumper, rams, bonnet hinges....

and of course the ECU

When the accident happened i called my dealer and asked them to collect the car and told them i would just pay for it without putting it through my insurance.

Then i found out the total cost of the repairs.

Eleven Thousand Pounds.

I'm pleased to report the car has been repaired perfectly, even if it took 5 weeks!

But I fear GT-R insurance won't be so cheap next year for any of us. Sorry about that! But don't do what I did. And if you hit a pedestrain, make sure you are reveresing

My god! cc_surrender.gif 11K for what looks a few hurndred quids worth of damage!! Ive never seen a car with the lifting bonnet like that? If I hit a pedestrian and it caused the bonnet to do that i would jump out the car and do 11k worth of damage to their face! lol..

The other worry is the 370z has the bonnet rams/ save a pedestrian system. I wonder if we are going to see the same issue with that.

If anyone with a GT-R wants a blown fuse to replace the one that activates this system I'm sure I can find one lol.gif

New designs for pedestrian safety... expect to see a lot more cars with this type of pyrotechnic hinge system. Either that, or higher bonnets to repel pedestrians away from hard surfaces, such as suspension turrets, and over the car.

I know that some of the Nissan boys have costed the component replacement cost of building a GT-R completely from the Spares Catalogue, let's just say that you would need to be extremely well off to contemplate building a GT-R in kit form lol.gif

Are you able to have these removed when you buy the car? I know its law to have them but surely its a grey area as they wouldnt check it at an MOT etc? 11K does seem a lot and would make me think twice about taking the car down to the supermarket. That thing would probably pop up if you bumped into a trolley
