Can be seen here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs...pletereport.pdf

Pages 134 & 135.

Looks like very good news of zeds registered before March 23 2006, they'll be in the new K band which means a maximum VED of £245 upto 2011!

For post march 2006 zeds it looks like the rise has been delayed a year, I'm not 100% sure of the details, the wording is confusing:

"As a result of these reforms to graduated VED, no driver in any given band will pay more than £5 extra in 2009. In 2010-11, when more significant rate changes are introduced, a majority of drivers will either pay less or the same as in 2009."

So in short:

Z registered before 23 March 06:

Tax starting from-
1st April 2009 to 31st March 2010 - £215
1st April 2010 to 31st March 2011 - £245

Z registered on or after 23 March 06:

Tax starting from-
1st April 2009 to 31st March 2010 - £405
1st April 2010 to 31st March 2011 - £435

Unless the government changes its mind again in the mean time.

This is all the more galling for me as my car was registered 29th March 06 and moved tax brackets in the 7 days between me ordering it and picking it up! 2.gif

1st March 2006 here! Lucky escape.

Mind you, £190 saving on VED is small change compared to recent depreciation.

I've got to tax mine by Friday too, and being a May '06 Zed I suppose it's a good thing I'll now (probably!) be paying the same this time next year to grace the roads. mellow.gif

As for the return of the rise in fuel duty, however, alas that's less in the way of good news. sad.gif

But perhaps off topic.

guys, mines an 03 plate and tax is due next week.

am i best paying just 6 months , they want to charge me 220 for 6 mths at the moment ??

ive had an ongoing issue with them because according to their website a Z registered before 23/03/06 should be in tax bracket F and not G which is what they charged me last year and want to charge me this year.

has anyone got any info or thoughts as to whether im right or not ??

cheers

They are wrong, you are right. Currently Band G (£400 per year) is for cars registered after 2006 only:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ownin...cle/DG_10012524

However you should check your V5 as it should say what band you are in on that. If it's band F on you're V5 you should write to them and claim last years overpayment back.

Some further info, after 1st april it will reduce as below:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ownin...hicle/DG_172916

Import cars may be different! It might be based on date of registration, not manufacture! Not sure!

My V5 has got the manufacturer date at the bottom of the front cover in the 'Special Notes' section, on the inside cover it has the date of first registration as the correct 2003 one and then the UK registration date on the next line. It has the emissions reading at 282G/km on line V.7

Going off whats said on the websites, the £400+ bracket ved band G is for cars "registered on or after 23/03/06". Therefore I think you're probably stuffed and will have to pay the higher rate.

Therefore it doesnt really matter if you get 6 or 12 months, as your rates will not be getting any lower.

The "good news" that I first mentioned is for zeds registered before 23 march 2006. They currently pay £210 for 12 months, and this is only going up to £245 and not £440+.
