Looks like a nice purchase and a good price mate.

I only have one question......Isnt Plasma a bit of a step back or is this a special Plasma that is just as good? I thought Plasma was on its way out due to LCD and LED being the new standard?

I had a Plasma before and the picture quality was nowhere near as good as my LCD plus you could only watch it directly in front of it as you couldnt view it from angles.

Id love to be corrected as this is a great price for a 46".

+1 I'm with you on this

IMO from the limited knowledge i have on AV gear....

Plasma still produces the best 'blacks' and contrasts. LCD screens use back lights which can result in a sort of torch beam effect on the corners called 'backlight bleed'
The motion sensors on LCD screens are not as good as the panasonic plasmas...(blurry ball effect/scrolling text that makes you high etc..)
On the larger screen sizes, the plasmas still give better picture quality overall...however, LCD tech is moving forwards now and many screens under the 40 inch sizes are as good as the plasma panels.

The point where i hate the plasma screens are the reflective glass screens..grrrr LCD eliminates that problem!

GET IT CALIBRATED by a professional...they will send test signals via your hd box, ps3, dvd players and computers etc to calibrate the plasma panel for accurate and consistant picture settings on each input. The picture quality will be stunning! you will never spend £4.50 for a tray of nachos ever again!

Lighter and thinner tech that is cheaper to mass produce and 'NEW' to the market!!! Best of all...no more glass screen with horrible reflections!!! LArge LCD panels are only just getting to the standards that the best plasmas were putting out 5 yrs ago.

Ohh and 90% of the TV buying public have no clue what a good contrast or deep black picture looks like anyway! So its easy to sell crap.

I come back to my earlier point about contrast ratios on LCD's and agree that a lot of them are cheap and crap - but a decent LCD with high contrast ratio will be superior to any plasma on the market...fact! 1.gif

Contrast ratios are an absolute waste of time - different manufacturers use different ways of calculating this, so it makes any decent comparison impossible.

Agreed, manufacturers do measure in different ways, some use static and some use dynamic contrast ratios but it still gives a reasonable guide into what is a crap TV and what is half decent and I stand by what I say - a decent LCD TV is better that the best plasma - but unfortunately people see a 40" LCD in their local Tescos for £300 and expect it to be better than plasma - of course it wont be!

As long as Teatowel is happy with his purchase, then all is good!

Enjoy it!!!

Lets be honest, you have to have a very critical eye to tell the difference, and at the end of the day - its the sound thats more important!
(ooops...have I opened another can of worms? lol)

Regarding sound, you are obviously 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000% correct smile.gif
