Ireland Registration

I have recently moved across to Dublin from the UK and have brought my zed with me. I still have the UK plates on but as I now intend to stay for 2 years I presume I need to register it in Ireland. Having had a quick scan through the revenue website I think I am exempt from VRT as I have had owned the car in the UK for longer than 6 months but I nearly fainted when I saw the motor tax rates, is €2,100 correct? Has anyone got any advice on the easiest way of sorting this out or know any way of keeping my UK plates?
Cheers
Mike
