The Zed paid a visit to Japtech in Hull today for a (sort of) P3 service and MOT today, and . . . we are licensed to spread pornography for another year.
It failed its first MOT, as the backbox had developed the usual slight leak near the flange. I thought it might be blowing a bit, but hadn't realised it was as bad as that. That said, the garage was very good and very fair - they slapped a bit of exhaust filler paste over the hole and got me a pass with just that as an advisory. They also got me a quote for an OEM backbox (as nowhere nearby had anything aftermarket), which, at £380 all in, I didn't think was too bad. However, as it didn't matter for another year, it was left with me. I did say that I keep being tempted by an aftermarket system, so it was quite good news in a way and they added that they'd be happy to fit it for me if I didn't want to bother, and I said I might take them up on that.
Overall I was happy with the service (with a lower case 's' intentionally), except for the fact the Zed looked filthy when I got it home. It was covered in water spots. I'm not sure if it was overspray from other vehicles being cleaned, although it seemed to be concentrated on the bonnet, with a bit on the leading edge of the roof and the top of the bootlid, so it might be the windscreen sprayers. Although considering the extent of the spray they've obviously got more lead in their pencils than an entire Premier League football team.
I am delighted to have some fresh gear oil too. The Zed was warm when I collected it, but I am looking forward to a slightly less graunchy an arthritic change from first to second when cold the next time we go out from cold.
[And I did ask them about the delamination, and I'll add what they said in your thread on it, Paul ]
