Good stuff.  I'd be keen on seeing a few pictures too.

I keep fancying another MR2.  If ever I did, on the basis of those prices, I'm even keener to get one with a really good roof or even a hardtop again.

Aye I thought they seem a bit pricey, but then thought, the current hood is original and 14yrs old, if it does another 14yrs or so it'll have had more than a grands worth of fuel and tyres on it, so in the grand scheme of things not too bad.

Also couldn't find anyone local to me (York area) that would tackle the job, I'd have bought a hood and given it a go, but at £600 for one and lack of time due to work, sorting race bikes and family, these guys can do it :-)

No, I certainly don't blame you.  For a Zed, and for what is quite a bit more complicated a roof mechanism, I didn't think they were too bad in comparison.  Particularly, as you say, there are few (at most) places in the York, or even wider Yorkshire, area that I'd fancy doing the job.

Put my Z through its twelfth MOT, it passed with no advisories.

Replaced the front drop-links so that it doesn't go thunklunk whenever I drive over a speed bump, or along the pothole festooned cart tracks that pass for A-roads in this part of the world, and it's restored must of the handling precision.

Now, just need to get rid of the damn awful Toyos and it will probably/hopefully steer like it should as well.

Those Zeds are amazing.  I look at some of my old cars and they have a nightmare in MOT's the old Zeds though.  Must be very chuffed.

Took a road trip on Saturday across the country from York to Stockport to have a new hood fitted on the 350z, so I apologise for the snow it was all my fault, but the snap shot from dash cam shows the worst we encountered on m62.

Sadly didn't get any shots of the hood swap as the fitter said he'd rather not as he said it'd taken years to learn the trade, so not wanting to upset him I didn't.

What a craftsman, he put in 4.5hrs of graft any rubbing marks or corrosion on the frame was repaired and repainted, all elastics and cables replaced and paintwork properly protected on the car, all very professional and I will recommend him to anyone www.thesofttopshop.com.

Not quite today but earlier this week...

Took my 350Z in for a P3 service.

Car was delivered to me new in September 2005 from JFE Exeter (now known as Exeter Nissan). So twelve and a half years later it was booked back in there after many years of servicing at other geographic Nissan dealers...

It was the big one: P3. I opted for them to do a coolant change, and supplied my own brake fluid. Collected after half day, nice and clean and did the obvious checks to look for what had been touched(!). We had a discussion about the tread depth on the spare and in the ensuing conversation with the technician he added a comment....

"I serviced this car in 2006 - its my writing in the Service Record!". There cant be many dealerships who've held on to a technician for over 12 years - certainly there aren't any other names or faces there that were around when I took delivery. He is also now one of their HPC techs.

A little job... only taken 10 years!

Back story: I was going on holiday from LHR and had agreed to pickup a lady friend enroute. When I arrived at her house she appeared with a large (understatement), solid, plastic suitcase. I was in the Z and had no other car at that time. We could have swapped to her car, but I was reluctant to leave the Z parked on the road for two weeks so the suitcase had to go in (as well as her). Eventually managed it, but in doing so the rear strut brace cover suffered quite severe scratching - in fact gouging might be a better word.

When we got back from holiday I ordered a new strut cover but when it arrived guess what? Nissan had changed the spec and this one was a much darker grey. But I fitted it, put the original in my parts crate, and got on with driving the Z..... Until last week!

In the back of my mind there was always that niggle about the wrong colour. Then the paintshop who have recently dealt with my front bumper and bonnet swap said they could re-finish the strut cover for me. So I took it in, they colour matched the paint and, lo and behold, I had an as new strut cover:

So today was swap over day. This is the darker one fitted:

IMG_1322.JPG

and this is the re-finished original:

IMG_1323.JPG IMG_1324.JPG

and lastly, this is the darker one, off the car for comparison with the first pic:

One step nearer to keeping my Z OEM.

Today, I quick detailed the Zed's wheels and gave the glass a wash.  That shifted most of the brake dust and dead bugs both acquired over the previous two days (the front end lost its smattering of bugs last night).  :bounce:
