Stormgirl has an idea. Decent idea IMO.
The converstation here is about male vs female and all the rest of it. But I think we need to concentrate on the original concept which is basically to increase the female audience, participation and profile of women within motorsport in UK.
If we look at this concept, I dont see why it should have major debates considering that men in general would want to see the results. And I say this only because women drivers are not as visible as men within the sport. I would love to see more women drivers training the newbies and assessing them etc....in the intrest of raising the profile of women within an area that is predominantly male dominated world wide!
Now I personally dont understand why certain women here do not agree with the above concept and its ideology...It is a debate so please convince me if you think im wrong here.
With regard to girl power etc...its very subjective. Girl power within girls may not be the same as girl power within a male audience. Raunchy might give you some power...then again it might not.
Ohh and one more thing..POWER is not something you think/demand...its something others allow you to have. you can have all the power you want..but if its not recognised by others and appreciated by others..your power is as good as a beermat burger at a race track!

We can't all agree on everything! Its an idea thats been done before thats all I was saying and that maybe looking at it slightly differently may work better, including in the achieving of the above concept. As Sarah said, if you ask for opinions you've got to be willing to get them from all angles!

At 17 I knew I wanted to drive cars, other than on the road, but didn't really know how. I knew there was a banger racing track about 10 miles from home, and found a team who race there, were based behind our local petrol station. I borrowed some courage, and asked if I could go along with them. Within a few weeks, I was racing!
If I had been given the chance to have proper instruction (not knocking the guys who helped me), who knows what may have happened....

I see the posts...and i think we are all going off on a tangent here.
Stormgirl has an idea. Decent idea IMO.
You're spot on Bobby - love your comments, any chance you'd like to collaborate??? The idea is obviously the beginning, then opinions of course matter, and it's always going to be taken that everyone will feel strongly about certain issues, yet ultimately, the pilot show will prove whether or not it could work. The general consensus I believe so far has been positive.
Power (on a metaphysical level) is something we own, as we can give away our 'power' by allowing others opinions and views to affect and/or cloud our own inner beliefs and if we go against what we feel is right for us, then we are not being true to ourselves. It's about commanding a self-respect, which in turn, gains respect from outside. Therefore, I do not refer to Power as an act of 'ego'! Girl Power, is about respect! Respect for the fact that females are just as much respected in the world of fast cars and racing.
p.s have seen the nissansportz.com facebook group, and ahem....do I see bodies on bonnets???? i rest my case! tho this concept has never been about that.

I have just read your last post - you say that you believe the 'general consensus so far to be POSITIVE?!! '
The general consensus to your ORIGINAL post was anything but and, even barring the most recent posts (how very unfortunate!) the thread has been moderated beyond belief.
I don't think you can have taken on board anything that any of the women here have posted - get yourself to specsavers love you obviously need your eyes tested

and then next year do one male only?
or it could be both women and men, dont care, dont understand the problem....
in the club racing i do there is no more or less respect for the females there because there is no thoughts of there ever being any lack of respect in this sector in the first place...
The idea could only generate more interest from women for motorsport, both as audience and participants as long as it was average jo off the street and not done on an application basis.
i do also quite like the idea dom suggested tho as an x factor style thing with the different groups

There is absolutely no denying that 'girls' (At nearly 29, I'm a bit too old to be called a girl now, I prefer being a 'lady') are the minority in any motorsport, but should we really be making a song and dance about it? It gets attention without doubt (I refer you to Charlie Butler-Hendersons 'Cunning Stunts' Project)
I've been involved with the 'motorsport' scene (in inverted comma's for good reason) since I was 15. Back in the day, I was thrashing Mk 1 Golfs around Kent Orchards and farmland (with permission of course). A few years on, I became a 'drifter' having worked through 3 S13's, 2 S14's and 3 S14a's, then eventually an R33. I was very well known within the scene and was approached to feature in a documentary for Men & Motors (search for DME Drifters on Yahoo, I think the video is still on there). It was broadcast in Summer 2007. I also did some film work for Channel 5.
In short, cars have dominated my entire adult life, and even my children are named after RWD cars. This isn't the first time I've heard of this 'make a humble girl a racing driver' idea. I like the concept, and it would be interesting viewing, whilst a fashion of turning 'ordinary people' into superstars fills our prime time slots. But in reality, if you are a woman who has a genuine thrill for cars and driving fast, then your gender won't hinder you anyway... ref: Sabine (what a legend) and VBH (I wish she were my sister).
