Paul,

are you going for the Cossie road pads or track?

Btw, isn't the G3 the one we should refuse to change the pollen filter?

Had my brakes done in Sept., but picked up an annoying quarter-lock rattle. :) In at RB Motorsport next week to try and fix.... :welcometonissansportz: these are the Alcons with Pagids.

Going to try the road Pads as they are supposed to be at least as good as the OEM pads which I have found to be very good. Just 1/3 of the price...

Pollen filter is a rip off so will mention this to them,
Hope your rattle is sorted soon the 2011 models have much bigger pad retaining springs while the caliper and pads are interchangeable.

All things considered, the prices Paul has quoted I don't think are too bad, for everything that could go wrong and the peace of mind considering the warranty.

With a few more exclamations of surprise - although I bet Paul knows plenty of those, and then some - I bet you could chip off a bit more from most of those prices, which makes them quite reasonable all things considered. Which is where I began.

The Alcon disc bells themselves had about 2mm float about the bobbins, which was witness marked on the rusted disc. I gather typical float is more on the order of 0.25mm:

AP Racing Float Specs - nominals

So it seems the float is a bit excessive.

Stripping them down and cleaning & greasing has greatly reduced the "rattle" (think football supporter rattle); it is absence up to half wheel locks at all speeds, whereas previously at quarter lock it rattled away... Still got a mild rattle at full lock!!!!

The clean and grease is unlikely to provide a permanent fix although RB Motorsports experience with the Ally grease they use is that it survives 10 000 miles in turbo bolts so has a good chance of lasting in the discs bell assembly. However, might need to shim each bobbin for a lasting solution!

Interesting. So the Alcons had too much disc float on the bobbins.

I think AP are really on top of the braking design game.
They have recently changed the ordering codes so that the bobbins are supplied with the discs as a set to eliminate confusion.
The new AP part No is: CP4590-033YNP.CG12

Have now got the front disc rattle as well. Only 3 weeks after fitting.
Quite noisey at low speed turns when not braking.

Litchfields recommend:

Quote

remove the front wheels one at a time and clean up the back of the wheel face that mates to the hub and also need to clean the hub face. You then apply a high quality copper grease to both surfaces and refit the wheels. Tighten the wheel nuts in sequence to 145Nm.
The copper grease and higher torque seems to spread the pressure more evenly and cures the clicking

That is a lot higher torque. What is standard on yours? I think it's 110Nm on the 350/370Z

It is 132Nm so only a 13Nm increase.
Off to buy a torque wrench now!

Booked in for its 30K - 30 month service next month with Darren at Westovers
Competitive HPC price of £243. Litchfields could beat this by £90 though.

36K / 3 year is a biggy needing engine, gearbox, diff oils, oil filter and 3 air filters.

Litchfield £763
Westway Aldershot £799 (special offer)
Middlehursts £1000 but excludes secondary air filter as they say it is not required
Westover Bournemouth £800 excluding pollen and secondary air filter.

So is booked in to Westovers 1 week before the Warranty runs out.

It also needs the annual free optimisation and an MOT total labour time is 7 hours.

Not cheap but in the scheme of things, not expensive either I guess.

I bet it feels better after all that though.

Not sure!!!Is yours? There is a little bit more rattle on tick over when cold but there has always been some.
Darren is going to have a look at it next month when he changes my dash under warranty.

like you, I thought a bit more of a rattle of late but could be me imagining it because the warranty is running out

changed my tranny and diff fluids in december, slightly out of sequence given quite intensive track time last year, so my 36'er will be a bit cheaper

still not sure what to do post april; monster tune up or play it safe, lol

Wheel nut torque has now been increased to 147Nm (108 lbft)
Does seem to reduce the disc noise.
