I was thinking how much difference the luxury boot mat did to deaden the sound coming up from the boot on my old 350 so I wondered if I could do a cheap & cheerful DIY job to improve the 370Z.

I had a look in the garage and I found some felt left over from when I laid some laminate flooring...

I marked out the boot floor, cut it out, and taped it to the 'bose cover' (you might need you parents to help you with the sharp scissors!) Finally, I wrapped the felt with some anti-weed matting left over from a job in the garden (I did this as the felt sheds green bits):

I then used the boot carpet to mark out the remaining floor area at the front end of the boot, taped the 2 bits together and wrapped in black matting:

Here is the final product:

Finally, simply drop the bits in the boot and cover up the messy job with the boot mat!

So - does it work? I haven't a clue yet but I doubt it!! :)

It'll tell you once I've been for a drive ;)

Yes, I thought that might be the case. Unfortunately there wasn't any kicking around!

Flipping typical, one of the kids had a good idea, uses his initiative and made his project all on his own and do you encourage him? No you dont you go and put him down as usual. ;)

Well done Paul 10 out of 10 for effort - you can collect your craft badge at the Chrismas Party. :)

Good work Paul, as ever. ;)

You didn't mention that it also adds a fraction more weight to the rear end, for those opportune moments at quiet, damp roundabouts. ;) :type:

It's probably a better idea than my two, interchangeable solutions to the problem: 1. turn the stereo up a bit more; or 2. turn the engine up a bit more. Probably.

Although it's amazing how doing one leads to you doing the other as well. :)

I have some 100mm thick phenolic foam sound deadening inslaution at work which you could carve in the shape of your boot using your blue peter sound deading installation tool kit.

You ought to bring a large piece to the Christmas Party, Matt.

You could auction it off for charity, because I bet a few owners would be interested. I know I could be. Anything with a fancy name . . . :)

When we get really bored we use the 50mm thick and put it in door ways tape and joint it the paint it I then pretend to loose my temper with 1 of my guys when loads of people are around and then push him through it like its a wall. We think its funny but some people dont. We have also played built walls from it and then we race electric mobile towers and crash them through it.

I love construction well I did last week before i came to heathrow

Anyone notices that the boot liner from a 370 looks like the enemies from pacman?

(Very) early indications are good! I'm shocked that it was instantly noticeable, even on my short drive to the station. I imagine the difference on the motorway will be good too ;)

The material is actually very light so there is no worry there. Also I now have less cr@p in the garage ;)

[. . .]
;) ;)

I might have to have a look in my garage now . . . Unless Matt will come up trumps for Christmas. :)

The only thing is most of the, erm, superfluous items in my garage are either things I've taken out of or off the car (e.g. the airbox, my old engine plastics, rear wiper etc), old (and not so old) oil containers, or boxes of old car and music magazines. I suppose that could be an interesting project. But thank heavens my old wheels are elsewhere. :) :type:

If you want a lorry load i can get it to you in a couple of days if you wait until christmas you will get a bit as big as the frount seat as my ample boot will be full of clothes, clurling tongs and heated rollers for B.o.B

I have to say this actually works really well! Motorway cruising is now a lot quieter :)

I'm looking to get a 'luxury' boot mat so I'll report back to let you know if that helps too or if I end up taking the DIY stuff out and just having the thick mat instead.
