600 Mile Impressions - MY11 Enhanced GT-R

Performance & Driving: Still only allowed half-throttle but its certainly seems at least as quick as the MY09. 300 miles done in Comfort mode and this is definitely better than MY09 – just the thing for when your nervous granny is in the passenger seat.
The Snow button has been replaced by Save mode. Although I don’t have a manual for this (waiting for the supplement!) I’ve tried it a couple of times and it seems to limit throttle opening (or fuel delivery) so acceleration is much more measured – one for granny again. A potential downside would be turning it on and forgetting – could leave you out in the war zone when trying to nip round somebody – still... time to wave as you embarrass yourself!!
Tyres feel less likely to bounce off white lines but still seem to tram-line occasionally – maybe only a low speed thing and will go away once normal service has been authorised.
Build & Cabin: Although it seems tighter in the cabin, it doesn’t seem a huge improvement over what I considered good anyway. I’ve got a plastic flexing click which I think is coming for the mirror bracket which I’m sure they’ll sort in due course.
The only other problem which annoys me is the driver’s door wont latch without being shut firmly (passenger door is okay) – another one for the technician to look at.
The Recaro seats are very comfortable with good side support. However, the higher sides mean that tilting the seats for rear access is a multi-step process! I still wish they had a memory for at least one position – mine!
Navigation & Function screen is much improved, but that may have been done in the first Satnav models. Satnav voice is nice (sounds like Charlotte Green from BBC R4) and speaks joined-up sentences not collections of words! Even if Satnav is not being used, you still get Safety Camera notifications. I still think there should be some rationalisation between the driver’s display and the function screen, although it is nice when in Europe to be able to have one in mph and one in kph – but this was true on the MY09 too.
Exterior: Cleaning is a little bit more complicated – more vents and lips to fiddle with and the larger tail-pipe trims mean getting to all the chrome is even harder than before. At least White shows you where you've missed!
And although I love the look of the wheels cleaning all the corners can take a long time. Ten dual-spokes (or is that five?) are quite fiddly, but at least they match with the five wheel nuts this time. I still cant use the Mequiars wheel cleaning brush – it doesn’t carry water to the wheel and leave stripes from the bristles – where is BulletMagnet when you need him!
Lastly, the boot floor seems a lot less hot than the MY09 – can safely carry frozen food home from the supermarket now!
Any questions?

What's the head turning factor like ?? Do you get more looks in white ? I now consider this a better looking GT-R then the older model ?? Do people realise you're crusing in the new model ??
Pete.

So the main improvement is the suspension and throttle response for the OAP passenger...Nissan really do think of everything

Didnt have the front protected this time - gambling on lower annual milage plus knowing the undercoat is white might hepl! It costs nearly £1k to do the whole front and it didnt help when I hit the Armco
I'm aiming to do 300 a week for the next two weeks to get the targeted optimisation done at 1,200. I've been asked why does it need running in (and given how its driven straight our of the factory). I understand the answer is more to do with the gearbox than the engine, and learning your driving style - clutches are then set to match - which is why 600 miles each way onthe motorway is not enough driving to carry out the optimisation.
I know I'm lucky to have it - and cant help feeling there wont be another - age and pension income may see to that...
Yes, it does still turn heads - but it seems to be knowledgeable ones - they all tell me how lucky I am too....
