I need to remove the front offside wheel arch liner to access (and change) my windscreen washer pump. Has anyone done this? Is it easy? Anything to watch out for?

When looking for a new pump, one from Nissan is about £50. Got mine from Eurocarparts for less than £7 with free postage :)

I'd be very cautious when doing it as the fasteners can seize up and be almost impossible to undo without ripping the liner. I've ripped both of my bottom fasteners out, but it doesnt seem to cause a problem.

It's always worth getting a pack of fastners in before you start taking anthing apart like this as the little sods do tend to break as soon as you look at them. I get mine from here but they are also quite cheap from the dealers. Apart from that it's fairly straight forward, just take it slowly and avoid pulling things. Also, you might be better taking the bumper off as iirc it gives you better access and it's also a fairly straight forward job :)

A handy stash of those little clips is essential with any Japanese car in my experience. :)

Well I finally braved the cold and changed my front screen washer pump today (got one from Vemo for about £6!).

Despite everyones advice, I went down the route of taking the wheel arch liner off, rather than removing the bumper. This was for three reasons;

1. The dealer said take the wheel arch liner off (they only allow 1/2 hour to change the pump including driving the car onto the ramps, but would still have cost £96 because Nissan parts prices are so high).

2. Taking the bumper off is, I've heard, a two person job and I've got no mates.

3. The pumps are mounted on the aft side of the washer bottle, so removing bumper wouldn't give the best access.

I only had to take the front part of the liner off - 4 clips, 2 screws (one from the other liner) and 4 10mm bolts from underneath. Amazingly all the clips came off and went back on with no problems, despite the cold weather. The furthest outboard bolt didn't seem to do anything, I think the liner hole had been ripped out previously but it didn't seem to matter.

Once it was all off the pumps are marked RR and FR so it's obvious which are which, but the garage who serviced it had filled the bottle so, being Cornish, I saved the 5 litres of windscreen wash to re use.

Once drained, I disconnected the wiring and cleaned with contact cleaner, removed the tube going to the jets from the pump (easy) and rocked the pump until it came out of it's seal in the bottle.

The Vemo pump was identical so fitted easily. Putting the liner back was a little fiddly, but easier than I thought.

So all in all a really easy job which saved about £90 from getting it done at the Dealer :D

Top work :clap:

I guess you took the wheel off to get better access. Or did you just put the steering hard over?

Hi Paul, sorry I missed out that bit! Yes, I took the wheel off first, it would have been really awkward otherwise...

I always struggle to find the wheel torque figure - is 90 ft lb right?

Hi

I am currently in the process of trying to get a new part.

the mechanic ordered the one for eurocarparts

Vemo Washer Pump Part No.: 488700010

and the mechanic said it was the worng part and sent it back;

I believe I have already cheesed him off somewhat so i need to make 100% certain this part does fit (he said the part he received was totally different than the nissan part he had taken out)

before i really anoy him by questioning his judgement, is this definitely the part and it can be forced to fit even though it may look a little different

or should i order this one

http://www.eurocarpa...AR825&0&cc5_896

also from there.

thanks for any help
