Can I be a real geek and put up a picture of my MacBook Pro, which I just put a new Vertex 4 SSD in and it now runs like a rocket ship?

Hopefully there will be someone who can geek out with me at this level, and appreciate the tech? Anyone? No? Back in my box!

Oh yeah! More details!! Im after more RAM and an SSD for the computer!

You asked!

This is my home office setup:

The Macbook pro is a 17" 2.2GHz Core i7, its currently got 8GB memory. However the price of the 16GB kits has now come down to ~£150 (it was nearer £1k when I bought my 8GB a year ago!), so I might have to upgrade.
So after 6 months, I was a little frustrated by having to wait a second or two for apps to open (like iPhoto and GIMP), and minutes to boot VMs (Virtual Machines for the IT illiterate). So I bought one of these:

As you can tell by the shocking video, this thing is FAST! it's read/write speeds aren't much quicker than others, but its IOPS is ridiculous. A few people have had issues with SATA 3 drives not perfuming at the full 6GB/s and dropping down to SATA 2 speed of 3GB/s (would make my expensive new HDD pointless!) so, I'm happy to see it at 6GB/s:

Also in that view, you can see a second HDD, this is the original 750GB HDD which I mounted in the CD drive space (after owning for this for a year, I had used the dvd drive twice, and once was to check it worked!), I did this using one of these: http://hdcaddy.com/ - this lets you put a HDD into the optical drive bay, and gives you a USB caddy for your optical bay. Simples.

installing the optical bay was one of the few things in life which made me nervous... there was a wire covering one of the screws I needed to remover and access was NOT easy. There are plenty of guides, but NONE of them had this wire!

So for all the non-techies who are still reading (if any), what does it all mean? Well, boot time from cold is about 12 seconds, shutdown is about 8. applications load instantly, Virtual Machines loading is measure in seconds, not minutes. aka, it is FAST.

Highly recommended! I now have to insure my laptop for more than most people insure their cars! ouch!
