So this afternoons job -

Ground out the old bolts then got some of these and ground one side out.

Stuck them in and put a bit of weld into the missing bit

Back when I was picking beans in Guatemala, we used to make fresh coffee, right off the trees I mean. That was good. This is s*** but, hey, I'm in a police station.

Good evening, if you are up with Zedshed affairs then you will know I spent most of Saturday upgrading the Ginger Ninja
Did a bit Saturday night and with an assist from Buster we did a bit more this afternoon.

I have to start with a special request -

Andlid wanted to know what the other side looked like, here ya go mate -

Posted Image

And on with the show -

We removed the back bumper

Posted Image

Then we took this big thing out from under the car - that should save some weight

Posted Image

Next we raised her up a bit to give better access for the cleanup underneath

"Roads? We don't need roads"

Posted Image

Looking quite empty underneath now!

Posted Image

In other news I've been starting work on the rear Sub-frame / Diff hanger

first up was a dam good clean

Posted Image

Then to the body shop (Tarpaulin hung from the wall)

Posted Image

A coat of acid etch primer

Posted Image

then the top coat

Rare action shot (my good lady sneaked in with a coffee and took it)

Posted Image

The finished product

Resplendent in Urban red, that should add 50 BHP  and they always say red is faster

Great mate, Ive wanted to do that for ages too! Check the guys who built the G35 drift car out as he cleaned them with a drill wire brush and they came up great! What do you use to clean them? Are you fitting the super pro bushes before paint or after?

Hello again it never stops round here, Well it does I broke my welder last night so sacked it early,

Went to the shop today and got a Teflon liner new swan neck, tips and a new shroud £37.50 later and my welder is as good as new.
So had a good night tonight even though there were a few problems to overcome.

Started of welding a new nut in here as the bolt sheared of during the strip down

Posted Image

Then onto these sheared bolts - 3 in this piece

Posted Image

When I ground out the old studs I discovered a split in one end and a rusted through top plate at the other -

Posted Image

Posted Image

So I set about with my welder and built it back up again

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

It's probably stronger than new now

Onto this little beauty

2 problems, firstly it hits the ground on speed bumps and secondly its been used as a jacking point - great place to jack from but it bends the bars!!
Posted Image

Posted Image

So I thought I would add a plate to act as a skid pan and use as a stronger jacking point. Cut some heavy weight plates from some metal I acquired on my travels.

Posted Image

Clamped them in place and back on the welder

Posted Image

Posted Image

Finished modification

Posted Image

Posted Image

Then over to the body shop (I know it's just a tarpaulin I hang round the wall but it sounds cool)

Posted Image

Primer coat

For some reason, i seem to be missing the reason why you're doing this...

However, excellent work, very dedicated, and kinda brings back some memories and knowledge of how bad it is to run cars in England :( You guys would *love* the rust, or lack thereof on cars over here, seriously, no salt used in the winter, i can work on my friends 93 accord calipers and nothing is seized, no rust, things just do not rust here! It's very bizarre, but cool nonetheless.

Anyway, keep us updated, you really are going all out on this :)

Do I need a reason? :D

If I do I could give you a number of them, mid life crisis, It's on my bucket list, for fun, but mainly because the little voices in my head told me to

"You want the truth? you can't handle the truth!" (film anyone?)

Back at the begging of the year I got my first Zed as a car I could have some fun with tune up and use purely for weekends and track days.
I had a standard 06 Zed and when it came time to look at upgrading I decided to go FI when all the costs were weighed up it was more cost effective to buy a pre modded car and take that on a stage than to start from scratch.

Along came my 03 SC 350 with a large list of mods (and has made it into a couple of magazines). Over the next 6 months I had fun at various meetings and on track at Castle Combe, but I was also watching out for parts at the right price and accumulated a fair number.

Andlid then found me a forged engine which would allow me to push the BHP that bit further without the worry of bending a rod.

Now if your fitting

New Engine
New Brakes
New Seats
New Suspension
New bushes
New Fuel system
etc etc etc

You're pretty much taking the car apart, as you have said we suffer from rust over here - my car is not particularly bad - but what better time to give it a clean and re-paint it all? Should give it a few more years and as track use is a lot harder on a car than road use it will be a lot easier working on a clean car where the nut n bolts can be undone without a gallon of WD40.

So, after writing this I realise that there is no rational justification:

Do I really have to have another 100 WHP? No.
Do I really have to have a second car? No.
Do I really need to go tearing round a track? No.

Which leads me to one conclusion and the answer to your original question -

"Why are you doing this"

Answer,

Because I want to.
