Ive got an interesting problem, 54 plate zed with GT pack.

The speaker on the passengers side front started cracking occasionally a few days ago, now it only works when you accelerate, as soon as you reach a constant speed or slow it cuts out. Now with circa 500 bhp it means you are into licence threatening territory after only a few words of any song.

Before I start dismantling everything to find the loose connection can anyone suggest the more probable places to look first. as far as I know the dash / radio etc has never been touched so it wont be a mod related problem

I have a sneaking suspicion that it's a fault in the head unit. I hope someone can tell me I'm wrong.

Edit: I guess you could disconnect the speaker and wire a bulb into the speaker wire then see if it flickers on/off as you drive. You'd have to snip the wire from the plug on the back of the stereo though - that's the only way I can think of isolating the problem.

And I was hoping it was just a wire out

Anyone else care to comment before I book it in somewhere

I assume from the stories I have read the stock units arent the best so no point in replacing it with one of those

Works when you accelerate because of the movement backwards or because of the power (electrical) being generated?

Someone suggested the obvious that I hadnt tried, use the radio which I never bother with & all the speakers were fine so Paul you were right. Had it checked yesterday & its one of the boards in the player thats failed. Decided to get the unit serviced & the board replaced to keep the car looking the same, there didnt appear to be any aftermarket units I could find that stored CD's & Im afraid Im old school & prefer that to the "I" thingys.

Hopefully parts will be with the guy in about 10 days

I will add the jumping CD problem on older systems is apparently a very common problem on Nissans. The company I am using have seen loads of them, especially in the trucks & pickups & can be sorted by gettimng the unit serviced so for anyone whos unit goes "jumpy" consider this before you shell out on something new. Mine was skipping badly as well over the last few months so hopefully it will be skip free as well when it comes back

Parts finally arived, speakers both sides now working, no more skipping but £420 lighter. Still I prefer CD's & little if any choice on decent dash loading multi players
