I had EXACTLY the same trouble before christmas & long story short, this seems to me like a fairly big issue. As was posted earlier, it's down to the steering lock/E.C.U. & I'm STILL waiting on the new part, (since 20th December).
It's certainly not your key & I know for a fact it's not your over oiled steering locks.
What a truly sinking feeling it is when your Z just does not start!
I'm told it's £1800 to replace by the dealer, however, thankfully my 370Z Black edition is still under warranty. What an absolute mare I had getting it to the dealers/waiting for the R.A.C. (4.5 hours from 1st recognising I had a problem to getting home & I live 2 miles from my work which is where I broke down).
I would check your R.A.C. cover, as mine is covered for 3 years under the Pan European cover I believe comes with ALL new Nissans????????????
If I was coming to the end of my warranty, I would definitely get this highlighted with your dealer everybody. Like I said, £1800 & that's just for the part!
I'm told I will get the Z back tomorrow/Thursday, but I have a bad feeling at the minute, (hope that's just new year blues). I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything & would be grateful if you could keep me posted on your situation.
Good luck..................HendoZ
Hi, sorry to hear you share my misfortune! I think the manual states 1 years cover is included, and as you state the Nissan dealers seem to offer an extra year every time you get a service from them. Saying that, I have only the car for a few weeks and so at the time was not clued up on that, I just went with what the manual said. It's a pain in the backside really, I just found out aswell when I contacted the AA that the cover (included with my bank account) does not include 'recovery' and so they would only take me to the nearest garage which of course was pointless; the car had to go to Nissan. Fortunately the guy was decent and took me to Nissan.
Hendoz did they diagnose the fault themselves without you pointing it out to them? I worry that the reset the ecu or something and the fault could potentially recur. They are apparently doing more tests tomorrow, but I just left a message to inform them (for the second time) that it was almost certainly a steering lock/ecu problem.
Fingers crossed
Pedro.

If you want to ask your local dealer to get in touch with them the phone number is 01915370400. That's for Evans Halshaw Nissan on Wessington Way in Sunderland.
My contact was Gareth in the service department.
I don't want to rub your nose in it, but, I got mine back at tea-time tonight. All safe & sound in my garage now getting a lovely wash/polish/wax...........bless. I spoke to the guys there & it was exactly as I described
in my previous posts.
I hope this all helps, I'm sure if you explain to the dealer the issue & resulting fix I had, they will phone Sunderland for advice???????
Good luck again & please let me know when you hear anything.
Cheers, HendoZ

Does this continue after 3 years as an incentive to always service at Nissan anyone know?
I certainly got another year when my old 350 had its third year service and first MOT last year.

Thanks for posting this info, I will suggest they get in touch with the guys who fixed yours, is there anything else listed on the sheet? all I can see is the 'work carried out' section. Out of interest, do you know what part number the new steering lock is? does it end with C or D?
Thanks

There was no other info' on the sheet, apart from my details of course. Am I ok to post my mobile number on here? If I am, I will leave it for you to contact me tomorrow. I'll be at work til 4pm so that will be too late for
me to get you anything sorted.
I can then phone my garage for a part number.

Thanks for being so helpful. No need for you to conact the dealership as if you look under the steering wheel/above the pedals the part number is printed on the sliver box. Please check only if it doesn't inconvenience you.
I would expect it to be 48700-JF00C or 48700-JF00D
The old one was probably 48700-JF00B

The Steering lock in the US is $500 not £1800. I suspect the real manufacting cost is more like £50 tops

It's a late 2010 (NL60), that's a massive mark-up then from £50 to £1800. They are robbing us blind me thinks!
