So I call the Nissan Garage and ask for a price on my next service. It's a P2 and they quote me £250 - Like you do, I ask what special offers they have on at the moment. 'Oh, yes', the service man says 'let me see......... Oh yes, you are now out of warranty so I can offer you a differant service at a reduced price of £175. Is that OK?' ' Yes' I said 'as long as it is still a service and I get my book stamped'
'Oh yes madam. thats fine, it's the same qualified engineers, the same Nissan parts'

So my question is, why do I pay more for a car within the warranty period, Oh yes, that will be to cover any necessary warranty work  or am I missing something

My dealer would give us a discount because Sarah's car because it was older, but that was a Fiesta. I wonder if the same rule applied??

Ford have a dual price policy on servicing as do quite a few other manufacturers.
Difficult to justify IMO.

Yes. So older cars that will be more difficult to work on because things have got rusted up are cheaper to fix

This is what puts me off with servicing cars at garages!

I believe that sometimes, most garages just pluck prices from places which are not suitable for viewing on this forum! Parts are the same, fitted by the same people, within the same labour rates with apparently the same quality, but yet, different prices apply due to the cars age, takes the wee-wee :bang:

just applying pressure on you to upgrade to something newer.

Although I've not yet had the RS4 serviced - I'm not looking forward to it after being told their rate for reviewing a small issue is £200/hr. eek.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeez. I pay £90/hr at my dealer. Have you tried a Skoda dealer instead? ;)

It's simple, their just taking the p.ss when charging different rates for identical work depending on the age of the car. When's the last time you got asked your age when paying for a meal?

Makes £125 / hour at an HPC although £60 / hour can be negotiated

Yes, find a good independent not too far away. Get them to quote for the right sort of service, then go back to the main dealer and see how they can improve.

If you need the brakes/cambelt/etc servicing, you need the brakes/cambelt/etc doing. However, as Paul_K says hourly rates aren't set in stone. Provided you get the stamp, and the correct invoice, and you can see your cambelt/brakes look better than when you went in then you've done alright.

Being fussy is a bonus.
