Nice! He will be "well cool" riding that at 16! Much better than a moped!

That looks pretty cool

You had joys at looking for insurance? My brother is 16 in Feb and he wants a crosser style bike but insurance is going to rob him £600!

Similar to a bike I had at 16 ..... All I remember is those tyres and wet roads and white lines etc. are not good together !!

Insurance wanted £990 third party fire and theft!!!! The lady at Carole Nash was brilliant though, she suggested I take third party only and tell him in no uncertain terms that if he doesn't bolt it to the floor and wrap at least three chains round it and a lamp post and use the disc lock too every time he leaves it, that life wouldn't be worth living. that made it come down to £460 plus £50 for personal injury and no excess.

Not looking forward to him actually going out on it :surrender: wet roads, omg!

Sarah, when my son was 16 he persuaded us to buy him a scooter and although i have ridden bikes myself continuously for 30 years i was still deeply unhappy at the prospect of him sharing the roads with other car users who mostly seem to be deaf, dumb and blind ( personal experience, but no one on here i am sure ), but he survived a few scrapes and is 26 now, but you will have a few sleepless nights i'm sure.

I said no,no, no, no way, never, you will drive a car but not a bike, never, no, no, no, and then eventually I realised he needs to learn to be sensible like we all have and I let go and said OK, but full leathers, proper boots, gloves, trousers, jacket. Full bike gear and the first day I catch you without it on is the last. He is sensible and therefore, I had to say yes. I am now have many sleepless nights ahead, you are quite right

Get him a set of wheels with road tires on too, then it won't be so harsh on his bum when riding on tarmac

Awesome first bike. My lads 14 in April and already said he wants a bike at 16. Like you I really want to say no, but how can I when I have two bikes and his mum has one too, he already has a pit bike so should be ready for it :unknw:

Spot on with the rules around having all the right kit on, I just don't get it when I see people on bikes in trainers, joggers and all that, must be mad

Good luck Jamie

Ouch!

I'll have to try and get my quote down further or he'll have to live with a scooter until he learns not to drop or crash it all the time!
