Today I’ve changed my second car . . . again.

More or less since I first obtained my full driving licence - twenty and a half years ago, give or take a few days – I’ve had and followed three commandments:-
  • Thou shalt not own a car with a diesel engine.
  • Thou shalt not own a car with an automatic gearbox.
  • Thou shalt not own a car with a soft top.
Then, as I’ve grown older, more experienced, more observant, and arguably more misanthropic, a fourth commandment has been added:
  • Thou shalt not own a car that in any way originates from France, or derives from or is in any way related to the Ingoldstadt or Bavarian Motor Werks.
Today, I broke one of the above rules. So, do I now own:-
  • A diesel?
  • An automatic?
  • A convertible? Or
  • A Peugenot (sic), a Ren-no (sic), a S*itroen (sic), or, a middle-manager’s spoilt brat’s taxi – sorry, an Audi, a VW, a Seat, or a BMW?

I say you've gone for a diesel. Now bring it down and show us. :) I'll even let you put it in the garage.

Thank you. :)

I've one or two minor jobs to do to her(!) first. But in the very near future I will pack a little lighter, and make a beeline for my and my cars' spiritual home, if I may?

And carry on guessing. ;)

If I know you at all (and I don't think I do, but I try!) then I think Sarah is right - it seems the lesser of the 'evils'

But then my brain tells me to choose the German option as I think you are hankering after a RWD mota and one of those manufacturers produces them ;)

No, we are still awaiting a winner I'm afraid.

I have got a theory that what I've actually gone for is the lesser of the three original evils, as I have stories or advice about my aversion to two of those original three.

And I'd like to think that what I've gone for is very much in keeping with the puritannical claptrap I've been spouting for the last year or three etc. :drive1 ;)

How about an Audi TT, that would then possibly be: Auto,Soft Top,and obviously an Audi. That would mean you have broke several rules. :hrhr: Unless you look at it a different way.....an Audi TT coupe = hardtop. 3.2 V6 DSG = technically you have to change gear yourself. Its still petrol so really that would be only 1 rule broke and that is........its an Audi. :hrhr: :hrhr:

  to all three of you.

Jimmy has briefly flirted with the right answer, and then took a wrong turn.

Funnily enough, I did get a bit of attention from a fairly run of the mill-ish (I think) A4 this afternoon. It's driver was obviously checking his five o'clock shadow in my bootlid, until we got to a ninety degree turn. He understeered quite a lot (and did I laugh when I glanced in my mirrors and saw him nearly end up in a hedge? Erm, yes! ), but I didn't.

Although what actually first drew me to it in particular was: it's four and a half years old; had only done 18,500 miles (or thereabouts); and was virtually spotless under the bonnet - always a good way to start! :bounce:

There is a clue here but I'm too stupid:

If I gave any clues I'd probably give it away, but, you're right Paul, there is a clue in my signature - I found out that Clarkson once gave it 14 out of 5 in a review in The Times.

:o

Heaven forbid. No, this is my 'sensible' car, which even I think is a bit weird . . . as you'll probably agree.

It's still not quite as good as the Sillycar, I think, which is one of many reasons why it's going nowhere.

And it is in the garage already, benefitting from a few minor mods. :D
