Side on it really does look similar to the original of 1989.
Did you consider the electric folding hard top?

Actually, the Hyundai one I'd recycled three times before now. I was going to sell it and buy a new Mazda one, but I found a/the cheap, tidy sticker that I thought looked ok and so just stuck that on top.
I've got a plain holder in the Celica with a Toyota Racing Development Sticker stuck on it that hasn't budged in nearly three years now, so it should be ok.
It is costing me a fortune in the little sticky pads though.

I'm leaning towards Florence - the name, not place, but their weather would do nicely.
Hopefully we'll have been bathed and still be bathing in wall to wall sunshine when Mod Day comes again though, and I can bring my old faithful again. Although it's good to have another reason to come (there are that many, though, that I lost count long ago

Yes, I did, but there are a lot fewer about. And as a result of that, and their higher list price, they tend to be quite a bit more expensive and more than I wanted to pay for a runabout that was in good condition. So I did think that a black coloured one would hide the cloth roof a bit better. I will be casually on the lookout for a fixed hardtop cover at some point in the future though, but I'm enjoying the novelty of a cloth roof and otherwise - other than a slight rattle from the scuttle when going sideways - it feels very solid.
In fact I think a new set of better brake discs and pads ought to be first on my "bigger" mods list, as the current discs look like they're beginning to approach theend of their useful life. However, being a light car, the standard calipers etc do seem to have more than enough power in them, and in braking tests the mk.3 always seems to do well.
It's funny, but, as I said, for years and years the MX-5 never floated my boat in any sense. Whereas the older I've been getting the more I've seen the appeal of them, both in terms of styling and driving appeal. And now I can't see why I couldn't see it before.

Impatience got the better of me, and, after giving the front of the MX-5 a quick wash, I fitted the clear/chrome side indicator lenses that I had bought to save for Mod Day.

Yes, they do, don't they. Since I started looking at MX-5s I noticed that some had clear side repeaters and some had orange, and the ones with clear ones did seem to look noticeably smarter.

I didn't think it was too bad when I finished washing the front, but I had to do the wing mirrors too, and that meant some of the doors as well. It was only when I took those pictures that I realised "Ooh, that's not exactly inconspicuous!".

No, it had had the full works a few weeks earlier, but then just over a week ago I got temporarily stuck behind a tipper truck from a quarry on a single carriageway road and the front end got really badly splattered with mud and wet chalk dust.
Seeing as the rear end wasn't anywhere near as bad, and I've got a long trip in it next week, and I wanted to fit the new lenses, I didn't want to bother doing any more. I would have left it at the front wings, but I had to do the wing mirrors and as they are set back a bit I ended up washing beneath them where there had been drips.
I often just wash the front end of a car, to remove road grime and dead insects, and in those circumstances I can often get away with just quick detailing the wing mirrors, but here there was so much muck on them they looked like something from Jackson Pollock's brown and white period, and so the shampoo had to go a bit further. Black paint never helps either.

Thanks. I have seen mention of BBR in Banzai and Japanese Performance.
I have a bit of an aversion of forced induction though - it's something else to go wrong, and as this is my sort of day-to-day car I'm not planning on modding it that significantly. Thanks for the link again though, as they're useful to keep in mind generally.
