Hey guys and gals,

I'm aware the drivers side window motor can give problems and I think mine has finally given up the ghost, not bad considering she's 8 years old now. My problem is that the window goes down not a bother but it can take upto 5 minutes of messing around with the button to get the window to come back up, so it's not gone completely, yet.

Before I get the 350z back on the road for the spring/summer I'd like to get it sorted. Can someone point me in the direction of what I need to get my window moving up and down freely again ?? I presume Zmanalex can sort the parts I need, yes ?

Cheers folks,

Pete.

Window fixes in order,

1, Give it a thump

2, Take the door card off and try the window reset procedure

3, Clean the motor. A bit of a faff but a lot of people have found clearing the carbon deposits from the bushes in the motor has resulted in a long term fix. I did my drivers side in 2008 and not had a problem since :D

4, last resort is new motor or regulator depending what you find when you look inside.

If the above reset fails to help, you can remove the motor and give it a good clean (temp fix) or replace the motor.

This thread shows how to gain access to and clean the window motor (from the US) http://my350z.com/fo...ndow-motor.html

If you'd rather replace the motor - we've got Genuine Nissan motors in stock :)

My God, they're expensive :(

But yes, out of interest, it looks like the yanks haven't found cleaning the motor to be that long term, i wonder if it's the heat or just using the windows more?

Wow, I didn't think a new motor would cost me over €200 !! I thought it would simply be 50 quid or something. I'll try the cleaning up suggestion from Paul first before I buy a new motor.

Thanks guys for all the information.

I had a theory that our passenger windows failed because more often than not the window only moves a fraction when the door is open and closed. Whereas the drivers' window gets used to get tickets at barriers; etc.

Which motor fails in The States?

Ah, maybe my theory is wrong then.

I have a new (backup!) theory now - I assume they use the same physical motor side to side (albeit probably with a different gear housing or such) so perhaps the motor likes being up one way more that the other???

I think it's door slamming, shock usually kills things pretty quickly :(

I had exactly this problem. It was the window motor steel spindle which fits into a white plastic block with a square hole which is part of the winding assembly.
Time and a loosening made the squarish hole in this block become round. So the motor turned but didn't turn the assembly.

Gravity alone helped the window down, but trying to put the window up just ground the square hole rounder and rounder.

I bought a spare regulator assembly to cure this. But later on i realised that filling the damaged ground out hole in the plastic block with a heavy duty glue/ fixer would have solved the problem for a few quid.

Thanks MartinW, car is in storage and to be honest I'll let my mechanic sort it out when prepping her for her nct (MOT) when she comes out of hibernation but I'll be telling him to try your solution !

Well the car has been back on the road since the start of April and the window was working fine again for a few weeks but the weekend before the NCT (MOT) the damn thing packed up fully !! Murphys law !

My mechanic stripped it out while prepping the car for the NCT and couldn't get it working again so a new one was dispatched by ZmanAlex a few weeks back but as it arrived the day of the nct I didn't get it fitted in time. Car failed due to the window but passed everything else, thank god, especially as they fail cars for being too loud in Ireland now (mine is loud). Due to be retested next week and the part is going into the window tomorrow so all should be well.

Cost me roughly €300 to sort though, a lot of money to get your window up and down again !!!

Ouch, not cheap. You'd have been OK if you could put a handle on it!

Paul, only one motor has packed up in my car in 160,000 miles; the passenger one.
