Hi,

I haven't been on here for a while, so much so that I forgot my user name and login, so I have had to set up a new account.

Recently, now and then I have had three warning lights come on and stay on (ABS, ESP and Slip indicator). The go out when I turn the car off and on again and stay off until the next time.

Has anyone experienced this or know what it is?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Hi,

Firstly, do you want me to find your old login?

In answer to your question, have you tried checking the level of your brake fluid?

Paul :)

Almost definitely brake related Steve. Pads might need replacing if fluid level has dropped that low. Happened to me at Bedford last month. Inside rears were down to the metal.

Thanks for your replies everyone, I'm taking it in on Saturday to have it checked out. From a bit of research it could be a faulty sensor too, which seems very common. What's the worst it could be or shouldn't I ask?

Hi,

I had my car at Nissan today to try and find out what was wrong, the fault code was showing brake pedal sensor switch connecting to the ABS module, this was at the end of the day so I didn't get any prices. He didn't seem to think it would be the whole ABS module, but will need to do more tests.

Can you buy the brake pedal sensor switch separately or do you need to buy the whole ABS module? The guy wasn't sure and the person that deals with costs had gone home. He said he would look into it for me.

Does anybody know how much this sensor should cost and if you can buy it separately and also the price of an ABS module box?

Cheers

Steve

I'm just trying to find the info for you.

I would be tempted to source second hand parts if the dealer costs are too much...

I was trying to find the parts on http://www.courtesyparts.com/ but I couldn't identify them. Can you see them on there?

Hi Paul,

No I couldn't see them either. Phoned up Nissan and they reckon I would need to buy ABS unit as a whole at the cost off £1600!!!!

Definitely won't be paying that. Will wait until I can get it back into Nissan which is a problem with this weather, before I start panicing.

Is this the same as the brake pedal light switch?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in replying. No this is different, the way the mechanic described it to me is that brake pedal sensor is thinking you are putting more pressure on it than it actually is and the ABS unit is thinking the car could slip out of control and puts all the warning lights on.

Hi,

Can anyone send me Zmanalex PM? I had it ages ago when I bought some bits from him but can't find it.

Well i'm going to call customer facing BS on the description, the ABS doesn't read off the brake pedal, it's wheel speed sensors.

Either way, if you can find what it's called specifically, most parts that are only sold as one huge unit, are usually available individually from here (States)

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I have a part number now from Nissan, it is 47600AL700 and is called the ABS motor.

When driving back from the garage the light was off, I was in traffic and stationary and applied hard pressure to the brake and sure enough they all came back on. It's more to do with the car thinking I am applying excess pressure to the brake pedal and thinking it is going to go out of control that it is putting all of the warning lights on.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Steve

So really, from I understand there isn't anything wrong with the ABS but it's this sensor which is attached to the ABS motor which is messing everything up. Ideally all I need is a new brake pedal sensor and it should be fixed, but this only comes as a unit with the ABS motor.

ABS still doesn't work like that, it's the ABS pump/motor, when you apply hard pressure to the pedal, it looses some of it's charge, if the pump/seals aren't working properly it needs to pump it up again.

Have you enough fluid in the ABS reservoir?

The only sensor on the pedal is the one that tells the brake light to come on and to cancel the cruise.
