I've never really bothered trying to match the quoted 0-62 times of my car but I was out tonight on a deserted stretch of road so I decided to have a play (the ODBII reader app on my phone records the best time)...

I was rubbish

Too much throttle at the start, too much wheel spin, and certainly not good times.

For some reason my brain was telling my foot to floor the accelerator before the wheels had gained traction

Can anyone give me any tips on how I can improve on 7.1 seconds?!

A slap in the face!

My old diesel BMW used to do better than that

I found that dumping the clutch just gets you nowhere. Rev to about 4-5k, let the clutch out quickly but gradually and when the wheels grab traction, change to second at a little over 7k. I'm sure you already know ;) but only press the clutch about halfway (past the bite point) and the gear changes will be quicker and smoother.

I must declare that I've never done this at a set of traffic lights, with a young lad in a Saxo and his girlfriend in the passenger next to me, as I don't condone this behaviour....

I hasten to say I only tried 2 then went home to have a beer instead.

Be gentle, it look a lot of courage to tell you the actual time!

Or maybe my ODBII App is wrong

A beer sounded like a good call mate :hrhr: I'm sure you'll nail it with a few more attempts mate, it's all in getting the timing right with the various controls.

If it makes you feel better...........I'm never going to get close to those 0-62 times for a long while,if ever at the moment :D

My name is Paul and I can't launch my car properly

I don't expect to get the same results they quote in the press (it's a bit like MPG figures isn't it?) but I think I need some practice to knock at least 1/5 second off my 'best' time.

I've never tried for a time in mine but I often feel when leaving the lights that my initial take off is never good. Once into second I'm fine, but getting off the line always feels either laboured or excessively aggressive. I'll give it some practice too and post up some times if they're not too embarrassing!

I agree, 1st is really hard to get right. I think I should make less of an effort when I pull away and give it all when I have traction.

I would have been out today for another try but I had to be home, and it was foggy so finding a clear road wouldn't have been possible!

Next meet, I'll lend you the OBDII reader and my phone so you have a go ;)

I have an app on my iphone called Dynolicious, it's actually pretty good.

My best recorded 0 to 60mph time was 5.1 seconds before the cat's, exhaust and reamap was done.

I found out that the car accelerates faster in auto than it does using the flappy paddles, the car can change gear faster than I can!

Been meaning to do another series of test's on the same road since the Z was modified, but we didn't get too many dry days last year!

Paul.

That sounds very quick - faster than the times Nissan quote! Does your app rely on GPS and accelerometers? The one I use is hooked into the car by ODBII so is (sadly in my case!) very accurate.

I would appreciate that mate - might take a little heat off me. Just don't tell us what the car is!

I had a play around on an empty road the other day with a mate in the car operating the stopwatch! Best time was 7seconds dead...but the bulk of the times were above 8seconds! Same problem was being unable to get off the line cleanly. Definitely time for another CAT day! :)

Shameful, 3.8seconds really ;) i find getting traction off the line to be quite difficult and also in second, in the wet i wouldn't even bother trying!
