Just test drove the g37s saloon/sedan.... have had my eye on the coupe for a while but this came up with a dealer and as the wife wants a 4 door car which has decent seats in the rear etc the saloon makes more sense....

Anyway I'm quite likely to pump up the cash and comit to buying it, however I'd like to get it looked over by an independent specialist. It's currently with an infiniti main dealer which is where I am buying it from.... anyway... what would you guys advise and who / where would you recomend me going to in order to get it checked over independently any specialists out there??

I live just near south east London/Kent.

Is there anything I need to be wary/aware of on this car?

I believe it may or may not be AWD or Rwd advertised as AWD by dealership, but sales guy suggests he is pretty sure it's just a rwd.

Any help/advice asap much appreciated.......

Hi and welcome :)

I think they did do an AWD version but I think the RWD is more common (well, maybe I should say the AWD is ever rarer!)  They garage selling it certainly should know!!!

I'm not aware of anything specific to check out.  The engine is shared with the 370Z and is pretty bulletproof :)

What year is the car?

2012 car...... yeah I know the awd ones of these are rare as hens teeth..... wont know for sure until I get it but suspect it's the sales guy who is wrong but he suggested he saw nothing on the paperwork to suggest it is awd which is off when dealership advertised it as awd.

Anyway does anyone know of independent specialists for these cars? I want to get someone to look it over for me before I bite the bullet as it were.

Paul beat me to it, as usual!

As for independent specialists, you could do worse than using the AA. I think they offer a range of levels of inspection and, although I've never used them myself,  I've not heard bad things about them. Does the garage offer any warranty?

If the garage can't provide you with an HPI check, make sure you get one. They're very cheap these days and can give you peace of mind.

Car's already been through 80 point RAC inspection, and comes with a 3 month warranty which is the legal minimum. I'm told it's already HPI checked by the main dealers I am buying from as they have to do that.

Cars on at 12500 and I've managed to knock a fair chunk off that price. Certainly smiled when I drove it.

Think I'd like to find an independent specialist to look it over rather than AA if I can however that all depends if anyone on here knows of anyone?

...so it's not the one I've just seen online, which is advertised at £11,800.

I'm not sure there are any Infiniti specialists to be honest.  I think your best bet would be a Nissan / Japanese car specialist.  Someone like Abbey Motorsport (if a little far away perhaps)?

Yeah probably a little too far doubt the dealership would let me take it there without paying my money first :D but might be a possibility afterwards.

This is the car in question it on the web when I searched the number plate to try and find out if as advertised in current ads it's AWD or as sales guy suggests it's actually not.... to me looks like he's right... wonder if I can use that to push the price down even more lol.

Anyway struck me as a nice car...... let me know if I am missing something or need to know anything.

It looks like a clean car to me :)

I see it shares the same brakes as the 370Z and we can suffer from judder when braking because of build up on the discs.  They can be a nightmare to keep clean (you need to brake quite hard quite regularly to do so).  If there is a hint of any judder then I would press the point with the dealer.  It's something that you will need to spend money fixing in the future if it's not right now.

I just did an MOT check and it's all good other than some advisory's on the rear tyres last year.  It's due an MOT on the 14th May so I would be inclined to ask for a new MOT to be done before you pick it up.

It's just been serviced apparently, but guess I can ask for mot to be done before I get it. Didn't check for judder, have to say didn't take it to fast on test as it was wet out there so never braked heavily.

Will go check and try and get someone to go with to check it over for me. Fingers crossed.

Yes, that's the same one as I saw at £11,800. Hope that gives you a tad more pressure for a further price reduction. Squeeze the pips out of them, mate - I always do :)

I have a 2010 G37S saloon.
If the car doesn't have the akebono brakes it could well be a AWD as they don't fit those cars. Not sure if non sport RWD have the akebono brakes or not.

If it's an Infiniti dealer they should definitely know what it is!

Regarding specialists I'm not aware of any so far but only had the steering lock fail, which isn't on the 2012 I think... an issue is trying to get parts through independents ad everything has to be sourced through Infiniti dealers. Nissan dealers are not allowed to service them unless that's changed!

I love mine and had it 3 years now, came from a 350z which I had for 7 years. Lots of kit and performance for the money.

Best resource to find out about the cars is myg37.com in the states unfortunately.

If you need to know anything let me know

I think that still holds true for Nissan dealers.  However, if you know the corresponding Nissan part number then you can just buy it from the dealer as you don't have to tell them what you're going to fit it to...

The brakes in the video are Akebono :)

Infiniti part numbers are different and they claim they aren't the same as the 370z but a lot are... just have to find the corresponding Nissan number. Lots of Nissan stickers in the engine bay...

Yea I was about to ask, is it an Infiniti dealer? I'm guessing you will get at least 3 months warranty with it too.

Yeah, I think the vast majority will be fine

I guess people in the VAG world have similar conversations between Skoda & Audi, etc.

I think you need a 370 VIN too, at least that's what I remember the guy telling me
