There are some serious performance figures here. Not sure if I could live with high revving turbo engine but still a decent bit of kit. I think I prefer the styling of the previous model too!

I really like the styling and having had a VTEC engined Prelude for a few years, wouldn't mind another Honda to play with.

Now where's my chequebook???

I had a FN2 Type R for 7 or 8 years and i do miss the car, the vtec engine is a constant source of enjoyment and a completely different drive to the Z. I do miss the car and had finances allowed i would have put it away for a rainy day as it was immaculate when i sold it.

An excerpt from their review:

The 2.0-litre turbo VTEC engine, which boasts an almost supercar-rivalling 315bhp, which is down on the current Ford Focus RS, but the Honda is faster with a top speed of 169mph, although 0-60 acceleration is slower at 7 seconds.

Two observations from that....

1) 315bhp, supercar-rivalling??!! In what decade? Supercars are now pushing 700bhp (800bhp if you look at the new Ferrari 812 Superfast).

2) 0-60 in 7 seconds - huh?? The old model I had with 197bhp did 0-60 in I think 6.6. Granted it's still FWD but it must be below 6 seconds.

So I think their reviewer needs to be sacked or the reviews need to be given to someone who knows something about cars.

The other thing is this:

TypeR-MC-rear.jpg

  As much as I love a fast Honda (have had two Type R's and an S2000), they've made an absolute pigs ear of the design of the Type R on the last two models now (in my opinion). It's just way to, well, just ugly for me, sorry. I feel a bit sad now  :(

Neutreus I think honda stopped the normal aspirated type r engine due to emission problems hence the turbo version and in my opinion that is where it went wrong, I have driven this car and it felt quick but not like the fn2 and not like the ep3 for sure. Honda IMHO should have done a better job

Yeah, it was the EP3 I had two of and as you say, it just felt raw, loved those cars.

Yes, it's not the greatest review is it?! I think the 0-60 time is 5.7. 7 sec 0-60 I think is referring to the Focus although it is not very clear. Very poor writing!

I'd be interested to drive one, but I have to say I think it looks fugly.  It's like a dogs dinner but after the dog has digested it, if you get my meaning...

Yes, I quite liked the look (and sound) of the old bread van EP3.  I still fancy one as a shopping cart nowadays - bearing in mind shopping trips are usually 35 or 40-mile round trips.  However, since then in styling terms Civic Type R's have been going steadily down hill.  So much so I'm dreading the sight of the next one, as I fear it may literally look like a polished turd.

2004 Yaris 1.3 - A flexible engine that likes a few revs, a slightly agricultural gearbox, and will wag its tail with a deft lift - it's basically a small Zed.
2007 350Z - Less a car, more a piece of pornography.

Looks definitely divide opinion.

I much prefer this new look over the last one.

Test drove the last one last month. Had 2 EP3s and a ITR DC5 so am pretty familiar with their characteristics.

I must admit it was fantastic to drive. Not just speed but the way it held the road, the way it drove was just like the type-r's I know and love.

The turbo lag was a little frustrating but apparently this new car has sorted that a bit.

I was expecting it to be completely different to what I was used to due to being a turbo lump but it really wasn't. Rev limit comes up all too quickly though.. guess they couldn't keep the 8.3-9k rev limit and strap  turbo on it which is a shame but it certainly didn't detract from the drive.

Will definitely be taking a look at this model in 3 or so years time.
