NISMO AND QUINTARELLI THRILL DTM FANS WITH HOCKENHEIM SUPER GT DEMO
Hockenheim, Germany – Nissan Super GT ace Ronnie Quintarelli showcased the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500 last weekend at the Hockenheim DTM finale in front of the German crowd.
The demonstration event was the first time manufacturers from the DTM and Super GT have been on track together. Championship promoters IRT (from the DTM) and GTA (Super GT) have been in discussion in recent years regarding jointly-developed technical regulations.
Quintarelli, driving the Motul-branded 2016-spec Super GT GT-R, did a 30-minute test session on Friday and two 15-minute high-speed demos Saturday and Sunday during the final DTM weekend of the season.
Former F1 driver Heikki Kovalainen also partook in the demonstration in the Super GT-spec Lexus along with DTM entries from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
In addition, DTM cars will turn laps during the November Super GT season finale at Twin-Ring Motegi in front of the Japanese crowd.
"We were very happy with the Super GT machines demonstration runs at the Hockenheim season finale – especially with so many DTM fans," Quintarelli said.
"For me, of course, it was a great honor to drive the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500 as a representative of Nissan/NISMO.
"I would like to thank GTA and ITR for this opportunity and we would like to give them warm welcome when they visit us at our final round at Motegi in November."
SUPERCARS HEAD TO GOLD COAST FOR FINAL ENDURANCE ROUND OF '17
Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia – The Nissan Motorsport’s Supercars Altima squad heads to Surfers Paradise this weekend for the Vodafone Gold Coast 600, the final endurance round of the season.
Fresh off a pair of top-10 finishes in the Bathurst 1000, at the hands of Michael Caruso and Dean Fiore in the No. 23 and Todd Kelly and Jack Le Brocq in the No. 20, the Nissan combos will be looking to build on that momentum going into the final stretch of the season.
Caruso and Fiore will run the Nissan Genuine Parts livery for the first time in 2017 on their No. 23 machine at the 2.984 km street circuit.
“Dean (Fiore) and I have finished on the podium at the Gold Coast 600 before and we’re keen to do it again," Caruso said.
"It’s a nice problem to deal with, having to try and fit a surfboard trophy into your overhead luggage on the way home.
"We were pretty consistent at Bathurst and showed a good improvement over Sandown. So if we can keep up that momentum we should be in a good spot for the weekend.
"The Gold Coast is a great part of Australia to visit. We’ve had a chilly winter down in Melbourne, so I’ll definitely be packing away the board shorts for this weekend.”
Also aiming for the coveted surfboard trophy this weekend are Rick Kelly and David Wall in the No. 15 and No. 78 Simona de Silvestro and David Russell No. 78.
We had a great time putting on a show at the final round of the DTM with Ronnie Quintarelli and the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500.
