k&n panel filter arrived so popped that in.. and also gave her a jet wash.

Also ordered new break discs, performance pads, new spark plugs, and a complete Hyperflex suspension bush kit from Torqen as they could deliver to Spain and had everything I needed.. I thought a bush kit would be a good idea considering the age of the car + the heat we get over here and the back end feels a tiny but mushy when going around tight fast corners.

Blimey.  Lots of 350Z action, and some good looking pictures too.  Is there something in the air?  Or the water?

Talking about being full of air and water - or something like that - I took the Zed out for the first time in a couple of weeks or so . . . and thoroughly enjoyed it.

IMG_20200712_130825.jpg

Just before I took the photo above there was an 18-reg TT parked in the next but one space.  I didn't think a great deal of it in any respect when I parked up, but when I returned to the Zed the (fairly mature) owner was sat in it with the window open and he shouted "Nice car".  Talking to other car owners like that isn't really my thing - I'm not going to inflate anyone else's ego - but we had a good chat about coupes in general for about five minutes.  He was a serial TT owner, having owned four in total, but said that if his wife had been a bit more amenable when 350Zs first went on sale he would probably have had one.  However, I was more interested to hear that in the distant past he'd had two RX7s.  We both laughed when he recounted the fuel, and oil, usage.  More than anything though, it just made a pleasant change to encounter a driver of advancing years who didn't want an SUV.

I took the longer way home, and hit another milestone just as I pulled into the driveway.

And I never miss an opportunity for a gratuitous profile picture either.

Today we finished off a job that was started on Tuesday. I decided that I probably needed new boot support stays as the originals weren't keeping it up like they used to....

Having taken delivery of a pair of new ones from NissanJP through Amayama, went on Tuesday to the bodyshop to get morale support when they were to be popped off their fixings using just a flat-bladed screwdriver (as it says in the Maintenance Manual.... mutter, mutter...)

Turns out that after 15 years in situ, the originals werent going "pop off"!. After a lot of manipulation we eventually took off both the upper and lower fixing points and removed the old ones with a cutter - turns out the circlips inside had seized solid. However, the first attempts at getting the top nearside one off had resulted in:

20200717_143128.jpg

So then I had to go and get a new one (two to be on the safe side) and with these collected from my local Nissan Dealer this morning, for the princely sum of £20 EACH, I went back for another go with these:

20200717_102820.jpg

Job then took 10 minutes - took off each side, cut the old ones off, refitted the fixings and the new did indeed just pop on!

Looking awesome there!  I wish I'd never sold my LMGT4's (or my sunset 350Z!)

I need a bigger garage and more time to play...

Nothing special.
Just a routine wash as the sun died away.
Still amazes me how Sunset Orange can look so dull and lifeless in some light, unyet comes "alive" under direct light.

They are really nice wheels, and go on to prove that a five- or six-spoke motif suits the Zed best.  More pictures, please . . .

Today, I didn't do a great deal of exciting things with the Zed, but did: polish a couple small spots of touch-up paint I applied earlier in the week (to cover up a couple of tiny battle scars earned a few weeks ago); and, gave the brakes a fairly good work-out to really clean the discs in advance of next week's MOT.

The Zed had a service and MOT today.

It failed the MOT on account of the "windscreen washers not working (both)".  According the emissions test printout I received the test took place around 10.30 this morning.  I didn't receive a phone call telling me about the washer problem until about 2.15 this afternoon.  I agreed to them doing the work, as I obviously didn't really have a great deal of choice.  When I went back to collect the Zed it appeared that they didn't have the correct pump, and so I arranged to take it back on Friday to have it fitted and the re-test done.

At home, I noticed that the bonnet and windscreen were covered in spray residue, so something must have been working at some point.  Worse than that though, the O/S/F wheel arch lining hadn't been replaced properly - I assume it needs to be removed to get to the pump - and the outer front edge is at the moment outside and rubbing on the paint rather than tucked in.  Now I know wheel arches take a bit of a battering from time to time, but the paint around there was ok when I left home.  I dread to think what it looks like with a plastic edge rubbing against it.

IMG_20200909_1942351.jpg

There was another minor issue too.  Hence I've emailed them tonight about all the above - it will save me a phone call tomorrow, and at least they have it in writing and can hopefully address everything satisfactorily by Friday - I haven't got the time to jack the front end up, turn the wheels and remove and refit the liner myself before then, which I would have preferred to do.  I am going to wear my 'Ersatz GB' t-shirt on Friday though.  Is it me, or does it seem to be getting harder and harder to get a decent job done nowadays?

I empathise with you Michael. After moving to Devon it took over two years to find a workshop/MOT tester, and bodyshop I trust... They seem to be like gold dust and I've had to work hard to convey to them how much my car is loved and I expect them to treat it like such.
Having said that, accidents happen and the most recent work on the handbrake drums has seen one of my refurbished wheels gaining a scar on a spoke.
As Forrest Gump would say ....
P.s neither of places I use look appealing from the outside!
