Heads up people!

Fifth Gear returns to the TV tomorrow (Thursday 6th Sept) night at 21:00.  You'll find it on the Quest channel (if you can find the Quest channel that is!)

Enjoy (I hope!) :)

Good news!

Oh, my mistake, that's the other programme a few generations ago . . .
2007 350Z - You'll get there when you get there, and that'll be fine. It's a better way to travel, and a much nicer way to live.
2004 Yaris 1.3 - It takes a little longer, but you'll get there when you get there, and that'll be fine. It's a better way to travel, and a much nicer way to live.

Well I quite enjoyed that but who was Bodger and Badger working on that intercooler? Let's start a list of things they did wrong - I reckon we could get to 5 without taking a breath!

I only saw the first bit, so I'll have that pleasure when I watch the rest tonight. i thought the tests & reviews were a bit lightweight, but the Alfa seemed to fare well against the Merc. Problem is, I prefer the looks of the Merc.

However, as I've said before, I still prefer Fifth Gear to Top Gear - or that cheap Amazon rip-off.

Oh yes - there was a second part to the test, wasn't there? Haven't seen that bit yet.

Maybe someone can explain the fascination of trying to drift the cars all the time what a bore. Just my opinion sure it must be popular. Love tiff but he is not a natural presenter

I agree about drifting. Its not fast. I suspect its promoted by tyre companies....

Nice to see Ronnie the Rocket in the car review.

Finally managed to watch the rest of the first show tonight. I agree 100% with Paul - it's my kind of car show too. I'm glad they've reduced the number of presenters back to just Tiff, Plato & VBH - all people who actually know their trade. As for Ronnie O'Sullivan - who needs him? I really don't like the gimmicky add-ons and meaningless minor celebs.

And to respond to Paul's point about Merc vs Alpha on the track - I know they've got several hundred horsepower and they're a full 0.4 seconds quicker to 60 than my car, but I wouldn't waste my money on either of them. Give me a Z and a gravelled carpark anyday. Yes, they include the drifting bits for twits like me :)

I can't and I agree. Sure it's a skill and there's a place for it in motorsport (clearly) but in a road test? Where's the relevance, I don't find myself thinking on the way to work, ooh I know I'll just pop the back end out here and burn some rubber?!

Obviously it's all for show (but not as bad as other car programs I could mention!)  If they want to do a proper comparison then each driver should drive both cars and average out the lap times, etc. to get a better assessment.  It is interesting to hear their views when 'racing' each other though - with regards to grip, corner speed, etc.

The thing that struck me about the Merc Vs Alpha 'race' was I thought the Merc would probably win with some to spare but they felt the need to drift it and lose time to make it more interesting.  I might be wrong, perhaps it's more of a barge compared to the Alpha, but it left me wondering.

Overall, I liked the show and will no doubt watch the rest of the series.  I like the fact they still talk about everyday cars even if they don't give them the time and level of detail I'd like to see.  I've never going to buy the new Citroen people carrier (or whatever) but it's interesting to see what they are like.  Just so I can judge my neighbours on their choice of vehicle
