A million thanks to Les and Cazza for organising this amazing opportunity. Also, to Martin for his invaluable help throughout the day - what a great bloke! I had a really enjoyable day.

What was achieved? - Well, I painted the W-brace towards the car's rear end and the two bracing pieces located nearer the front.

Removing the W-brace was simple. All 10 bolts came off very easily (the car's not yet 3 years old). The rusting had started, but it wasn't too bad. In fact, I was being pro-active for once in my life, having seen how bad these parts get after six or seven years..

IMG_20180915_102902474.jpg     IMG_20180915_102920698.jpg

I also decided to paint the two bracing pieces at the front end, because they were rusting and flaking already. I did them in-situ. Before & after pics...

IMG_20180915_103148665.jpg    IMG_20180915_125652123.jpg

Here is the W-brace, wire-brushed, cleaned, painted with black Hammerite and refitted. It should rust more slowly for a while...

IMG_20180915_125715050.jpg

and a general shot of the excellent workshop...

IMG_20180915_142154418.jpg

I REALLY hope we can do it again one day. Such a great idea. And not forgetting the amazing company ...and the fact that we could watch Lewis get pole on a very large TV :)

Oh my, where to start?  Well it has to be a HUGE THANK YOU to Les, Caroline and Martin for all the organisation, food & drinks, help and advice - and in my case for staying on later than they wanted to help get my exhaust done (they were very polite about it and I owe you all several drinks!)

:thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou:

Les, please pass on my many thanks to Martin for all he did - the car was a dream to drive home with everything nicely balanced ;)

I hope really hope Martin and his wife can make it to the Xmas do.  He's a top bloke!

I will do a full report tomorrow - right now I'm heading out for a meal and a few drinks with Sarah who was waiting patiently at home for my return

Firstly many thanks to Martin Swanser for his help setting up the event, including getting the chocks manufactured to allow the cars to get on the ramps.  And Martin Cubitt for being an absolute star today never stopping - and helping everyone.

Also thanks to Caroline who made all the Sandwiches and helped with the Hospitality through the day.

Thanks to everyone who came.  It was a very enjoyable day.  I have to say I am completely knackered.

It was great to meet everyone again.  I will do a full report tomorrow. But I am well knackered :)

Apologies for a very short visit, got there a lot later than expected, but a massive thanks to Les and Cazza for organising this (and the food).

Great to meet you all again and put some more faces to names. My day went downhill from then on, we lost in the footy and I managed to drive over a massive pothole with a sickening crunch coming from underneath somewhere. I can't see any damage on the outside and it drove home fine, no leaks that I can see. I need to use a ramp - timed that wrong didn't I!

What great pictures and what a great read of what looks like a brilliant day.  Hopefully it will happen again one day, as I must come along - like several others I bet.  The rider looks pretty good too.

Don't read anything into this, but it's interesting how at home the 370Zs look on the ramps . . .

Yes, I would like to correct my thanks I posted above.  BOTH Martins did a great job so thanks guys

As an aside, I will let Cazza tell you why she laughed when Martin and I were working on my exhaust - me on one spanner, Martin on the other end of the bolt with another spanner...

The workshop day started on the Monday morning, when we tried and realised the Zed is too low to get on the ramps, the team from the Motor Vehicle section of Cambridge Regional College were not to be deterred - a way was worked out, but it would be fiddly, so finding some old wood plants from a building we stripped out over the Summer and they constructed a Low Car kit, with wood and old tyres.  Genius and they have something for low cars going forward.

I will be honest when I say I was pleased when the first car went in the air as I knew the prep work was all worth it.

Cazza and I arrived on site around 7am - it was a lovely end of the Summer Saturday, not too hot and more importantly dry.  As the day started and I opened the electric shutters onto a workshop demanding action.  the light flooded in and the place looked as I remembered it when it was opened in 2009.

Soon Zeds were arriving.  A Convoy of 3, and individually I think during the day we had 11 cars attend (12 with Jeff Moody's Hyundai which was getting some TLC as well).

The work was varied.  From those who just wanted time away to take a corner of the workshop and detail, those who wanted to examine the underside of their cars to full on wheel balancing, brakes and exhaust gasket changes and W Brace refurb.

In the background the projector showed Motorsport TV and F1 qualifying.  A background noise to a busy workshop.  It was a relaxed day, with everyone helping each other, chatting and enjoying each others company.  The workshop has never looked that pretty.

A few random pictures from the day.  Sorry taken on my phone.   Apologies for anyone I didn't get a photo of.  I was working on the polisher for a few hours.  I know a lot of the members travelled some distance to attend and I hope it was a good day and everyone enjoyed it.  I will be honest I didn't expect so many diverse projects and it was great to watch.

“ As an aside, I will let Cazza tell you why she laughed when Martin and I were working on my exhaust - me on one spanner, Martin on the other end of the bolt with another spanner...”

I have watched loads of episodes of tv progs like Car SOS & Wheeler Dealers and when they take bits apart its dirty but have never seen two men under a car holding onto spanner’s trying to twist them.

At one point each were holding/hanging onto 4 spanner’s two connected together to make one mega long spanner. Then they started to twist Martin planted to the floor and Paul S started to ... now how do I describe these foot steps ... like he was ice skating.

Ok so we had managed as a team to untwist or snap the bolts ( ok my element was to hold a torch and try and make sure each guy could see what he was doing ). Then we we had to remove the old gaskets, some elements just fell to the floor & some were baked on. Paul started scraping, bits flew or having not eaten enough sarnies he ended up swallowing some, Martin is now considering we need face masks as well as eye protection.

I can only repeat what has been said already sorry. Because of work commitments I got to the party late but enjoyed every moment, there is something about getting together with people who have the same interests as you. The amount of knowledge that was in that garage was probably more then where we get our cars serviced and detailed. Good friendly people who are willing to share there knowledge with you. Lesmo and cazza put a lot of work into this and we are in your debt. And the mechanic who works with les I forget his name was a star. Of to look at snow foam kits now as I understand the principle thanks to Jeff.

The Honey Monster very much appreciated the fantastic facilities offered to the club

I changed all 4 calipers for a freshly painted set and changed the brake fluid at the same time.  I also replaced 4 of the Invidia 6 exhaust gaskets for the copper ones I made up (2 more to do next weekend the old fashioned way laying on my back under the car!).  Also, Martin very kindly balanced my front wheels with a spot-on '0-0' reading!

Here are some pics....

I'll echo everyone's comments, this was a brilliant event at a great venue. Those members who couldn't make it, sadly missed a great day. I didn't actually do anything to my car other than give it a quick detail but it was just great to see the work that everyone else was doing, give a little help but mostly just catching up with like-minded petrol heads, both those I've known for a while and a couple I haven't met before.

I must also say a massive thank you to both Les & Caz for arranging the day, a massive hats off to you, thoroughly enjoyed it and also pass on my thanks to Martin and everyone else involved for allowing the event to happen.

I'll post up my pics when I can flippin rotate them!
