Happy New Year!
Over the coming months we are planning to keep an eye on the 350z rebuild by club member nacnud as he works to bring a 350z back to concourse standard. Starting from a 2006 Sunset 350z.
A mamouth task to uncouple the wiring loom from the engine and remove it all to allow the bay to be painted the same colour as the car.
Engine removal is well under way.
Wanting to make sure this rebuild is the very best it can be John has had double trouble, taking the engine out of the project car and also the donar car with a swap all the mechanical parts from the 'original' black coupe with only "authentic" 43000km on the clock. With the first of the two engines out.
Keep up to date with the progress here. More next month.
The 2018 Events Year
Over this year - there have been more than a few opportunities for members to meet up and chat. To think It all started back in February with a meet in Coventry.
A couple of months of rather dodgy weather including the beast from the East. And we were greeted with a marvelous summer of Sun.
The next event of the year was to Silverstone and JapFest.
Soon to be followed by a slightly overcast trip to the Castle.
A visit to a really Hot Kimbolton.
Soon after..... off to the Summer Social and a bit of Karting and a stay away near Milton Keynes.
Later in the Summer the club took over a workshop with its ramps for the workshop day.
finally, onto Christmas and the AGM
Nismo Update - December 2018
30,000+ FANS CELEBRATE NISSAN'S MOTORSPORT PAST AND FUTURE
Fuji International Speedway, Japan – While heavy cloud cover meant more than 30,000 fans could not see Mount Fuji, fans did get to see more than 60 years of Nissan's incredible racing history and gain insight into its exciting future at the 2018 NISMO Festival.
The annual fan appreciation event featured an exciting day of races, demonstration and fan events with cars ranging from the 1958 Around Australia Trial class-winning Datsun 1000 through to Nissan e.dams Formula E car, which will make its debut in the all-electric street-racing championship in two weeks.
Test and reserve driver, Japanese ace Mitsunori Takaboshi, drove the Formula E car. The ex-Japanese Formula 3 champion excited local fans by performing donuts on the main straight before showcasing the power and agility of the "Gen2" car.
The demonstration also featured Nissan LEAF NISMO road cars and the new Nissan LEAF NISMO RC electric racer, which was officially unveiled on Friday at the Formula E team's launch at Nissan's Tokyo brand-experience center, Nissan Crossing.
Featuring more than twice the performance of the previous generation Nissan LEAF NISMO RC, the new electric racers were piloted by Super GT racer Tsugio Matsuda and Japanese actor, singer and race team owner, Masahiko Kondo.
Newly-announced Nissan e.dams race driver Oliver Rowland was also on hand to see the Formula E car's debut along with Jann Mardenborough, who was announced as team's simulator driver on Friday.
Other track highlights included historic demonstrations, a Z-challenge exhibition race, and the annual NISMO GP which features cars from the Japanese Super GT and Super Taikyu championship.
The NISMO GP was won by the No. 23 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500 of Ronnie Quintarelli and Tsugio Matsuda.
In addition to the 30,000+ fans on site, the entire day's activities were live streamed on NISMO.com and NISMO's YouTube channel—NISMO.tv.
The day's activities were completed with Kondo Racing's recently announced Nurburgring 24 Hour challenger revealed for the Japanese fans and a celebration of GTNET Motorsports Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 championship victory in Super Taikyu.
Lucas Ordonez Out At Nissan/ NISMO Too First GT Academy winner
Hot on the heels of the announcement by Alex Buncombe that he would no longer be a Nissan factory driver in 2019 comes a not dissimilar communication from his colleague and friend Lucas Ordonez.
With no European programme in prospect from Nissan in GT racing it is clear that the decks are being cleared – That’s a huge shame after a decade of commitment and programmes that have established the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 as both a competitive prospect, and as a true fan favourite.
In his time with the marque he raced in GT4, GT3, Super GT, LMP2 and LMP1 as well as a myriad of other machinery.
Nissan NISMO Statement – Nissan will not renew the driving contracts for Lucas Ordonez and Alex Buncombe in 2019 as the brand switches its international motorsport focus from GT racing to the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
Both drivers have given incredible service to Nissan over the past ten years, and we thank them for their efforts and wish them the best of luck in the future.
They have enjoyed a successful 10-year championship-winning career with the brand with Ordonez claiming the first-ever Nissan PlayStation GT Academy gamer-to-racer competition and Buncombe acting as a key mentor for many of the competition’s graduates.
GT Sport Motul Team RJN contested the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup in 2018 as a Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 customer team with Ordonez and Buncombe as teammates.
The Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 will continue to be raced around the world by leading customer teams in 2019. RJN Motorsport’s plans for 2019 have not been revealed at this stage.
