I have the 200 piece set. Dont rate it that highly as the sockets are multi spline and not hex.

I've noticed that with some when I've been looking in there.  Some do seem to be hex though, I'm not sure which range is which and if the discount code applies to the hex ones.

Maybe the black "proffesional" range has hex. But they aint gonna be cheap.

Their professional range still consists of a lot of 12 point sockets unfortunately. I've also broken 2 of their professional ratchets, both changed but was a little shocked how easy they broke.

I did however purchase an advanced 17 piece Impact driver set, which was all 6 point hex sockets for £32. I thought that this a good deal and they work great.

A Halfords trade card is a good thing to have, as it gives you excellent discounts across the board. To qualify for one, you only need to be in one of many specified trades - and have headed notepaper to prove it.

Here are the specified trades:

  • Qualified mechanic
  • Self-employed mechanic
  • Mobile mechanic
  • Small independent garage mechanic
  • Fast Fit Centre mechanic
  • Commercial vehicle mechanic
  • Police, fire or ambulance mechanic
  • Bus mechanic
  • Local authority mechanic
  • Recovery mechanic
  • College motor vehicle staff
  • Army mechanic
  • RAF or aviation engineer
  • Naval engineer
  • Marine engineer/mechanic
  • Carpenter
  • Electrician
  • Plumber
  • Glazier
  • Landscape/Fencer
  • Welder/Metal worker
  • Utilities worker
  • Taxi companies & drivers
  • Courier companies & drivers

Of course, I'm not suggesting anyone should bodge up a fake trade on their laptop, just to save money. That would involve lying and cheating - something which none of us would ever do.

This makes sense. The black sockets (half inch impact) in my set are all hex.
