Right everyone, the time has come to exert some pressure to get the car destined for the UK....

IMO there are several avenues we can use but the first one need to be through your friendly Nissan dealer. Contact your local dealer and identify their Sportscars sales specialist (or their sales manager if they dont have one) and say you want to have your name put on a "Register of Interest". This will give them ammunition to lobby Nissan GB to pass back to Japan.

Then email Nissan GB (we'll try and find a senior name for this) and express your interest. Remind them how good their sales figures were for the first years of the 350Z and 370Z and then the Nismo models.

By all means use this thread to show your support BUT above all lobby Nissan's Dealers and Nissan GB themselves.

I'd also suggest we try and find a "volunteer" who is prepared to place an order through an import specialist and get them to place an order with a Japanese dealer. If we can do that and get one of the first production models brought to the UK imagine the attention that would grab.

There are probably other avenues open to us, so feel free to post up here. But let's get started NOW!

Good plan. I'm up for emails etc.
I can also put something out on my youtube channel to help spread the word too.

If I can get a big enough number of people supporting my channel I may be in a position to import one when the time comes.

All depends on price, import fees, any conversion costs etc.

But, the bigger my channel gets, the more likely I can make the costs of being the first more manageable as I may get partial sponsorship from importers if there's a big enough audience behind me.

I've got some questions though...

Were the sales good?  Yes, the UK bought about a third of all 370Zs sold in Europe...

But, they only sold 3200ish cars in 2009 - 2010 across the whole of Europe!
We bought 1200 of those in the UK. These are tiny numbers in manufacturer terms.

Meanwhile, the US bought nearly 20,000 370zs in its first two years...
Six times as many 370Zs as the whole of Europe...
Despite the US having about half the population size.

Last year, they sold about 2400 370Zs in the US, but only 500 ish in Europe...

Of which, 199 were shipped to the UK.

I'm just not seeing the business case to sell them here...

Even if there were enough buyers here to justify the homologation and transport costs from Japan, emissions is the other hurdle. We don't really know what they'll be here yet.
If our commitments to the UN under the Paris Agreement mean we have to stick within the framework of emissions regs we have now, then car manufacturers will still be fined about €95 per 1g/km they go over the average of 95g/km.

So, as I said on another thread... In Europe Nissan sold 400,000 vehicles across all their ranges.
If the Z pushes them 1g/km over the limit across their range, that's 400,000x€95 = €38M in fines.

As I said in my video of yesterday, I think it's important for the brand to bring them here but they need to focus on selling more EVs and making a profit first.

Still, we should absolutely highlight the demand by contacting dealers and Nissan UK... I'm just wondering how we can argue that the sales were "good" – as it's hard to see that in the numbers...
Or, how we can ignore the emissions challenges they face as a manufacturer.

We should also consider the 350Z numbers...

and, if they arent going to sell the R36 here (as strongly reported) they'll be lacking a flagship model in their dealer's showrooms.

Yes, they definitely need a halo model (or two) and with the best will in the world SUVs, etc aren't.

I'm not overly friendly with my local Nissan dealer, but I will put a friendly shot across their bows about the Z35 (I'm calling it that, as I quite like it and am not troubled by referring to it as such) when I get a moment.

I just hope that they don't try and sell me something, as I always struggle to say no. Even when I'm not really looking.

With regards to the group emissions , I'm keeping my fingers crossed that when the Ariya replaces the QQ it will bring them down enough.

I do wonder though if Nissan are sacrificing the Z35 in the UK so we get the R35 replacement.  All pure speculation of course.

There's a very interesting - if not entirely comforting - piece written by Matt Prior inside the rear page of this week's Autocar (23 - 30 Sept issue).

I don't quite agree with all of his conclusions - the 370Z is better than that, and deserves more recognition, and I don't want a Z breadvan - but almost everything else he writes to get to those conclusions is clear and unarguable.

A little while ago we were advised to enjoy what we've got - something I always try to do - and as far as I can see that is still the best advice going.
