The only thing I'd say in defence of the mk iii is that paintshield would probably double the cost of the car but it does offer the potential for good marketing I'll give you that. It's lovingly refered to as a "gimp mask" and they're always a matter of personal preference, getting covered in stickey back plastic is another fetish entirely !!!!
