Should I Get A Nismo, And If So Where's Best?

Hey all, decided to upgrade the rusty looking mess with a Nismo, unless there's mass advice against! I've heard a few clips and it sounds great. Where's the cheapest place to source a cat-back system?

also should I be looking at replacing the standard cat with a highflow one or leave it be? Quite a novice at this so would appreciate advice!

cheers guys, Si

Phil at ESR (username bigphil) is probably the cheapest in the UK. £850 IIRC.

I'd suggest to anyone that they try the exhaust before going with the high flow cats as you might find you don't want it any louder and you can always add them at a later date.

Also worth noting that when coupled with high flow cats some Nismos have cracked. This particularly seems a problem with Kinetix cats.

HTH :)

I would also suggest looking at the Stillen True Dual, I have had both (Nismo on the first Z, Stillen on the second) and I would have to say that the Stillen sounds better.

Temper Orange Nismo GT, Nismo LMGT4's, StuartB Tonneau cover, Z mats (front and rear), Z tax disc, stubby antenna and Garmin Nuvi 660T, Stillen Dual Intakes and Stillen True Dual Exhaust arrived and fitted.

Gone but not forgotten :(

Is there such a site or mag or something that reviews all these zorsts? like with a selection of sound clips etc! Have you got some of yours Si?

Not that I am aware of mate, however you can ask around, I have met a number of people and they have heard my exhaust. Speak to those who went to the SuperCar Sunday or the TDI Dyno Day.

5Zigen is a good way to go, I think that they are probably 2nd at the moment in fitment after the Nismos. Sound terrific with or without hiflows :-) Speak to Kev @ Envy if you want to go that route.

hi mate, ive been looking into this for a while too as im in the same boat as yourself.

the choice is good as far as systems go and the prices vary tremendously, (£300 to £3000) but i nailed it to the following.. depending on your personal taste ..

nismo, the name speaks for its self but there are too many reports worldwide of faulty welding...

DC Sports Dual.. again a top system..very few reports of problems but my personal preference is the sound is a little raspy.

so i would tend to agree with 3FIDDYZ and go with the 5zigen system.

a nice quality deep throaty sound and quality build.

all of which are roughly the same price..

keep us informed on your decisions matey!

hi there...here are my thoughts on the matter....

nismo systems have cracks at the y-pipe near to the joining area with the high flow cats...reason for this was widely stated by users as the lack of a bracket on the kintix high flow cats in particular...this would then weigh down the y-pipe and put more presure flexing the y-pipe than what they were designed for and result in a crack.

haveing said that...nismo systems used by lot of people have no issues whatsoever...i think!!..

5Zigen...brilliant sound if you like the deep burbling note..

DC/Stillen true dual....quality sound note on the higher pitch scale...

me personally....Im trying to upgrade the stock system with a y-pipe for about £150..this would make the stock system louder and i like the sound on the stock... (most aftermarket systems do not come with y-pipe...they are extra). So the y-pipe will help me make up my preference on the sound of the stock system before i move onto an aftermarket system..

Prices are all pretty much the same...round about £800-£900

hope this helps!

I've covered about 7k miles on my Nismo zorst, including hitting it against a few bumps under the car and doing a few donuts and it's still perfect, no cracking. It also sounds gorgeous when all hot !

Thanks gents, definately worried me RE Nismo now, there's no way i'm spending over 900 quid (fitted etc) for it to crack. Assume there's warranty with this stuff, but then you have the hassle of paying to get it off, sending it back, paying to get another one fitted! blimey. Any soothing assurances before I discount Nismo totally? Phil what do you reckon?

Looks like 5zigen or Stillen at mo, will look out for clips, if anyone knows best place to source don't be shy

Once it's all done tho, ILL post some pics and clips as there's a distinct lack from what I can see, unless I'm not googlin' right!

IF you like the nismo sound.....get it from a UK trader and especially from our club traders ENVY/ESR.....you will have warranty and backup in case anything goes wrong...majority of the nismo systems are performing without any glitches!!!!

I honestly wouldnt let the reports of failures put me off, the sound of the Nismo is so much better than any other system (in my opinion). Also, the exhaust just looks like a polished version of the standard one, none of these chavvy canister jobs with bean can tail pipes.

My Nismo has done 45k now & apart from catching the Y-pipe flexi joints a few times on speed bumps its perfect & imho the sound when nice & hot is superb - suits the car perfectly - not too loud & very little resonance when cruising but growls when you push the loud pedal & pops on over run.

The build quality is very good - but then it should be for the price.

Its true there have been a few reports of cracking but mainly when married to a particular brand of Hi flow cats which due to their design & lack of supporting brackets put additional strain on the Y pipe.

Whatever you decide to go for its a personal choice based on budget & sound preference but I don't think you would be dissappointed with the Nismo.

Thanks Nismo encourragers! So if I leave my stock cat alone (was always intending to unless advice is otherwise) and get a Nismo on there I shouldnt have crackage?

The only other thing I've got in there is a K&N panel filter, brave aren't I? hehe, you never know I might get a few extra bhp with the Nismo / K&N combo! :drunk:

We have sold over 40 Nismo systems over the past year with no problems having said that should the worst happen any defective part would be replaced immediately.

We have also fitted a number of the 5Zigen systems which are also very good quality and fit, very popular. 5Zigen doesn't come with the Y pipe wih is an extra £100 if bought with the exhaust.

It should do as the standard cats have hangers on them, so less chance of stress on the joins... Hi Flows will just give it a bit more and some of the new hi-flows have hangers / brackets so they fit like the stock ones...

You been along to a meet yet to hear the Nismo and other options "live"? Its a worth while experience :welcome:
