A Question For You................

Yesterday I attended the AGM and like all AGM's the business bit was dealt with followed by some lively debating by members onsubjects close to thier hearts. A short break followed by a presentation by a nice chap called Simon on the newly awaited 370Z.  He explained how the car had been stiffened and lightened in weight, how the design concept was worked through and the nice new touches that had been added to enhance the driver experience, all backed up with some fancy slides.  At the end of his talk he uttered "Well I suppose I had better show you one................."

Stunned silence followed by ever widening grins and a rush to the room next door to see the new car.  What a tremendous scoop for Nissansport and the hard work of the club to get the first public showing of the 370Z to its members.

On reflection I start to wonder about what the Owners Club provides and the discussions during the AGM about increasing the membership.  One of the points raised was the the membership fee was seen as an initial barrier to joining, as the perceived view is that the club offers exactly the same as any other club, but charges for it. I have a forum to chat to other Z enthusiasts or ask for their advice on any matter I so wish, get discounted bits for my beloved car from friendly dealers, meets with other Z 'nutters', etc .

In my two years or so with the club it has has offered exactly the same as any other club and I have paid some £30 a year for the privilege but I have also had the opportunity to attend many club subsided events (some taken up, some not).  I thoroughly enjoyed the chance to visit the Team Modena Aston Martin pits at Silverstone during the Le Mans Series, drive a couple of laps of the circuit, gamble 'free' money at the casino, meet AJ designer of the Z, and it goes on.  The stronger links with Nissan now can only lead to a more enjoyable experience as seen by the 370Z viewing.

So finally my open questions to all: Why did you the members join the Owners Club and pay your £30 but more importantly why do active users of the forum not want to join in the same experience?

Hi Stez,

Good to see you again yesterday.

Like you I paid up and joined and have thoroughly enjoyed the member benefits, as per your list. Like you I have not been to all events, that's life.

Things like being the first to see a 370Z in the UK and be able to 'paw' all over it for an hour, to me is worth half the annual subscription in itself. So that makes the other £15 of the subscription even better value!!!

You takes yer money and all that......

Well said Stez, :blackeye: :winkiss:

All of the above .....Discounted and sometimes free access to a HUGE range of events!

Access to the first showing in the UK of a newly model sports car ...PRICELESS!

So much value for the money. The thing is users actually don't have the access to the members areas

and really haven't a clue what they miss sometimes.

And the club have agreed again not to raise the membership subscription charge so still sooooo cheap.

So finally my open questions to all: Why did you the members join the Owners Club and pay your £30 but more importantly why do active users of the forum not want to join in the same experience?

Thank you for posting this Steve :teeth:

I joined this Club because of all the advice/support & friendship (that greatly improved the ownership experience of a wonderful car) I received as a new owner in July 2005.

Back in 2005 the forum was exactly that a "forum", we still had meets and events but it wasn't an Owners Club. 3 and a bit years down the line our Club has more to offer, even more so with our improving relationship with Nissan and everything that that has already bought us and will do in the future

for example;

Our own exclusive preview of the 370z before anyone else in the UK! :hello:

Agreed Damo. For me it's also doing things that money can't buy - meeting Ajay Panchal, Getting into the Silverstone garages the year before that, being the 1st in the country to see the 370Z up close and personal, etc.

I joined this club as a member even before I bought my car!!! I was doing my research on the 350z and the club was a brilliant resource. The information and members' attitude to new people looking for info, The way the 350z was described both good bits and bad ..enabled me to make a good decision.

And now about 1.5yrs later..the benefits far outweigh any other subscription that I can possible take anywhere else. The meets of the Club are organised and held very professionally and the friendliness and comraderie of the club is second to none. (Even though every single member of the commitee and mod team are doing all of this in their spare time!!!!)

What do I get for my money? Free tickets, Access to privilaged events, discounts from traders and most of all..technical knowledge that is second to none...Just makes the ownership experience that must better. (info on here is even better than what you can find out from most service managers at your dealership!!)

National meets where I get to meet owners from all parts of the country and share their experiences with the car along with a parade lap at silverstone along with full access at a LEmans event!!!!

And finally..I get to see the new replacement of my current car, sit in it, ask questions about it to NISSAN itself all before anyone else in the UK!!!

not bad for £35/yr eh?

I joined up as a member as soon as I got my car, you don't tend to get much for £35 these days so I've continued to be surprised by how much I have actually got for that very small investment! Great events, fantastic people, invaluable advice, discounts that have made my membership worthwhile many times over and not to mention some of those 'money can't buy' things like meeting Ajay and seeing the 370z! :hello:

I knew that owning a 350z would be brilliant fun, being a member has just made it even better! ;)

I wonder what the reaction would have been if we'd stuck to our original plan on Saturday - I'd originally arranged to have all 4 of the prototypes there on Saturday :hello: , but in the couple of days before the AGM this slowly dwindled down to the one we saw(for various reasons that I won't bore you with!). I'm gutted I couldn't get this sorted, but one was better than none!! Ironically, the one we all saw was the one that came from furthest away, but it just shows that having good dialogue and exchange of ideas with Nissan can give a fantastic experience to our members. Believe me, years ago when we were in our infancy, this club and NMGB were poles apart in their understanding of each others needs. I think Saturday marked a massive turning point in the relationship and mutual understanding of Nissan and our marvellous club ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

I'd like to thank Stez for starting this topic...

and for all Members' continued support in joining and staying Members of nissansportz

It really pleases all of the Committee to be able to bring these sort of Special Events to the Membership.

Seeing the looks on everyones faces and the huge grins around the room/field/marquee whenever we manage to pull off a Club Exclusive really does make it worth all of the effort.

Yes, we do charge a membership fee - we have no problem with admitting that, as no-one takes anything out of club funds unless paying for venues, events, print and postal costs, etc. After all it would be unfair to expect individuals to fund everything on their own...

As we have always said - the more that you put into the club, the more you get out of it.

We would love every Member to attend every event, sure it would empty the accounts, but it would be great to see everyone enjoying themselves and benefitting from everyone's hard work in running the club.

Giles

As many of you know I only get to drive the Zed on test drives or when I've done something good enough to earn it for the night (Thanks Dave - Same for GT-R please)

I have only ever used this forum as a non-paying member to keep abreast of all the information that pours through here and occasionally and tentatively post once in a while. However, I did go to the Duxford meet, albeit very hungover, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself having a wander about and chatting to an excellent bunch of welcoming and friendly people!

This thread has inspired me to pay my £35, as even though I don't own a Zed I get huge benefit from this forum, the information within it and many of the members who I have met either here (at Marshall's) or at the Duxford meet and can wholeheartedly agree it's worth every penny. :)

Now don't forget to make the next meet on a Sunday I'm not scheduled to work so I can come along too!! :shutup2:

Fingers crossed I pass the entrants exam!!
