2020 Nissan GT-R Track Edition

Recommended Posts

As info on this has been launched to dealers, albeit very low profile presumably so as not to distract from the Nismo currently doing showroom rounds, I've started a new thread to give some Track Edition details... (MY20 Standard GT-R info is not yet available in the UK)

Orders are now open for the Track Edition with first deliveries in December 2019.

These details are for the UK (and is probably Nissan Europe spec.)

Changes over MY19 include:

  • 20" RAYS forged nine-spoke alloy wheels with newly designed Dunlop tires (sic!)
  • Carbon spoiler as standard removed and replaced with that of standard GT-R
  • Options include: Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Carbon Roof and Carbon Spoiler (all new(!)) plus Carbon Seats and Bootlid (as per MY19).

(From previous discussions I understand the carbon bootlid is body colour, carbon roof and spoiler are ... carbon (black)!)

Priced from £99,995

I have no prices for the options yet, plus I'm asking questions about other items mentioned in the New York launch, such as does it have the new Turbos?

A reminder of the New York launch Track Edition info...

"A revised 2020 GT-R Track Edition
For those inclined to take their GT-R to a race circuit, Nissan offers the revised and very potent 2020 Track Edition, which comes with an optional carbon fibre roof that sports a clean, tight weave made possible by a new construction process.

The engine (for U.S. models) is borrowed from the famed GT-R NISMO, with newly redesigned turbochargers from the latest GT3 series GT-R race car. This results in a 20% increase in pedal-down acceleration reaction time and 600 horsepower.

Optional on the Track Edition are special Brembo carbon ceramic rotors and calipers. Made of carbon and silica carbide, the rotors (410 mm front and 390 mm rear) are nearly as hard as diamonds. Paired with the performance brake pads, they generate more friction, which translates into better feel and control in all types of braking situations."

There were also new elements from the 2020 standard car which were supposed to be carried through to the Track Edition...

The £95,060 is from the Nissan.co.uk configurator which has not been updated yet. And I'm still asking for Option prices for the 2020...

I have heard there are only 16 track editions in the UK since the launch

Does that sound right to you John?

Ooo! That's a good question.... At first I thought I'd never seen one but in fact I now recall seeing an unsold one in a dealer - the giveaway being the lack of back seats (at that time!). Although Howmanyleft says there are 37...

I think that the Track Edition (like the Nismo) is rather sold as built to order with perhaps just one pre-production of each doing the rounds of dealers (I recall at one time there was only one Nismo in the whole of Europe!). That's probably how the one Spec-V made it to the UK and eventually sold.

That's brings us to product positioning in the GT--R range so maybe I'll start a separate thread for that tomorrow!

  • 1 month later...

I have received prices for the various options on the 2020 model. They are:

Carbon Seats £6,750

Ceramic Brakes £7,500

Carbon Spoiler £3,000

Carbon Spoiler & Boot Lid £4,500

Carbon Roof £2,000

Metallic Paint £875

Special Paint £1,775

Carbon Roof and Spoiler are Black, Carbon Bootlid is body colour.

Engine is confirmed as new spec turbochargers, etc, with 570ps.

Option price is interesting... Carbon bootlid option was last quoted (2019) as £750 so a 100% increase...

. . . Or very expensive glue and bolts. If I was an owner I'd close the bootlid very carefully. If I ever put anything in there.

Humour aside, I think the last Track Edition was probably my favourite R35; like a Nismo in slightly softer shoes. And I remember seeing a few pictures in reviews where the press car had all four wheels off the ground at the Millbrook Alpine circuit - oh, the benefits of someone else's springs and dampers.
