Gasitup 480
Massive thanks to Martin and Martyn for the care and commitment to the cause today. My first workshop event and once again the OC proves how an OC should be. Friendly, knowledgeable and multi skilled got some amazing results with time spent enjoying our pride and joys. This event is a must for any member to attend in future to get intimate with your Z or just enjoy a cuppa and a few hours picking up hints and tips. Pics and stuff will follow but a curry beacons with a small merlot.Huge thanks to Lesmo and Cazza for organising the event and a fantastic buffet to keep the troops energised. ChasGFL 513
Massive thanks to Les and Caroline for organising this, nice to finally see what's actually under my car and see the bits I'd acquired (a lawns worth of grass and mud wedged under the W brace) and lost (nice big gap under the boot!!) and make some plans for next time when I might actually do something to the car.
Neutreus 2,111
Firstly, a massive thank you to Les & Cazza for once again organising such a brilliant event. I also need to say thank you to the Martin's, I'm not sure of surnames but Les, please pass on my thank you to the Martin that very kindly drove me to the local shops to get some oil. LESmo 8,014
I am not entirely sure - we had 4-5 ramps in use for the majority of the day, about 5 cars attending didn't come into the workshop. Sure those working can explain what they were doing. Jeff-W 2,749
For JFK’s insatiable curiosity, I cleaned and protected the alloys with Rimwax. Yes, Rimwax. Most of all, my thanks to our hosts at the College and to Les and Cazza for running a great day, providing the food and drink and making sure that everything ran smoothly. This event is quite rightly becoming a Members’ “must”. It is really good to be able to identify a clear benefit of paying to join - this day alone is worth it. Dave G 320
To indulge the curiosity of those who were not able to attend, I managed (with the help of various pairs of hands - not always a matching pair either) to remove my W-brace, clean it up and get two coats of Hammerite on it as well as swap out my standard and very rusty exhaust for an Invidia Cat back system. The day started early as I was giving Martyn a lift in as he lives just round the corner from me. We got to site at about 8ish where Les and Caroline had already unlocked and set up the food after their own interesting journey in! The tea urn was already on so a cuppa beckoned! I had packed up the car the night before to make sure I definitely had room for Martyn! Success! It wasn't long before we worked out how to get the cars on to the ramps. The Royal 'we' obviously! Then the fun started, I removed the W-brace to clean up and paint to that it could dry while I was working on the exhaust. It was quite rusty to say the least. Wire brush and de-grease time... With a first coat on the W-brace, I set to work on the exhaust. I had sprayed WD40 on all of the fasteners for a few days before, but it was pointless. Not one fastener budged, all of them had to be cut off. This was a typical sight (for reference, the car is 5 years old): So the angle grinder came out to play. Les has a photo of me cutting, see further up this topic. Martyn kindly lent a hand to get the last bits off that I couldn't get to with the grinder. The flanges at the end of the cats (where the new exhaust bolts to) were just as difficult. The studs were far too rusty to use again and the nuts wouldn't budge so they had to be ground off too. The ends of the studs had to be heated with a blowtorch to get them out (thanks Martin for helping with this!). Again, for future reference, they're splined into the flanges so can be pushed/persuaded out. I'll add some detail to the 'How to' thread that Paul wrote a while ago about this. Finally they were all out and the ends of the flanges could be cleaned up. Then the fun bit stared, fitting the shiny bits. It was quite quick to get it all on as it fitted perfectly. Finished! A few flanges needed a little tightening after I'd tested it and it had warmed up and then cooled but otherwise a quite straight forward install (MUCH easier than removal!). Lastly, the W-brace. All refitted To summarise the day. great company, great cars (obvs!), great venue, great food spread, privileged to be there, lots of laughter through the day and I only skinned one knuckle! The drive home was a little interesting as the exhaust bedding in meant it smoked quite a bit (I'll admit I did pull over once just to make sure!) but it sounded lovely! Very pleased with what I got done which was only possible due to the venue and the help & advice I received. I can't thank Les and Caroline enough for making this happen, Martyn and Martin for their help and of course to everyone else who attended. Mick, it was an honour to share a bay with you! Lastly, apologies I didn't get to chat more to you all but I was on a mission - once the old exhaust was cut there was no going back! If we're lucky enough to do this again next year, I'd love to be there!!! Thank you again!

Paul_S 8,946
Great photos! I particularly like this one: The Datsun is closer yet looks smaller I took a lot of time having a proper good look at the underside of the Datsun because, whilst I've been under it for many hours, my face has only been a few inches from it. It was great to walk under and hang off the suspension, etc. to check it all out. I also took lots of pictures from different angles for future reference - it's so much easier finding a photo of a particular bit then crawling under the car to check it out. Other than a thorough check over, I changed the engine oil and filter, re-torqued my front wheel bearings, found an issue with the front driver side strut (which I am addressing now), made a reasonable attempt at adjusting the exhaust to stop it hitting the bodywork at certain times, measured some fuel tank breather pipes (that need changing this winter), and attempted to fix my speedo drive (this wasn't a permanent fix because I need to file a new flat edge on it, but at least I know it's possible). I have a great old time! On a different subject, are there any red squirrels around the site? I could have sworn I saw one on a tree as I was slowing for a speed ramp just before entering the car park! 1 'A standard limited edition Yellow 370Z* with a plethora of minor bespoke mods' *one of 40 don't you know!
