I'm taking the Nismo, and Bex (she doesn't yet know), to Brands Hatch on 31 Jan, but meeting a friend at 10:40, sorry 1FHL

very sad times, but tbh it was always on the cards.

Although the event is/was Covid19 safe, it's the travel ban that blocks it - much like Silverstone - didn't get there either as we were in tier 4, and they were in tier 3 😞

but I've got over both with the CAT Event news 🥳...Sat 15 May...surely a possibility...

I've rebooked for 5 April, 09:30 - slots were going fast! (faster than when we're on the track I suspect!)

new bookings should go on sale to all around 12 February - any interest in a meet on maybe 14 August?

It's 'Drive' Brands Hatch eve!

I promise to report back after, good or bad, but i'm genuinely excited just to be 'going out'! Bex seems keen too.

I expect to put more miles on the Z tomorrow, than I have so far in the rest of 2021! She's clean, detailed, and ready to go.

well i'm pleased to report that we're back safe and well, and both enjoyed the experience.

I wasn't sure what to expect really, but tbh, they've hit the nail on the head. It's not a trackday, but it's not a parade lap. 3 laps of the full Grand Prix circuit, with about a dozen cars behind each safety car. His pace was good for novice drivers, in a variety of cars (I had a Discovery behind me!). No crash helmets, and with under 16s allowed as passengers, i think it gave Bex a good taster.

As with all circuit experiences ever, we wanted more laps!...

the cost of this (£35) also included a photo. These are the best 2 out of the 14 they took!, all downloadable at no extra cost (the 'spotted' GTR is in the background of the first shot).

We also got given a goody bag, which included 2 different "I've driven Brands Hatch" window stickers.

So all in all, a good day yesterday.

Now, do I do it again?...

Yes, only £35, which I think is good value for 3 laps of Brands Grand Prix (each lap was about 4 minutes).

I'd say 60mph was the max, but I was concentrating on showing Bex the racing lines, and accelerating through the corners, rather than the speedo.

As I said, not a trackday, but not a parade lap either (and a good opportunity to show the whole family the track (if you take a bigger car 🤣))

I quite fancy doing it in the motorhome. Saw truck racing there a couple of years ago - it was mental.

hmm, track access might be an issue - there's a tunnel to navigate under Paddock Hill Bend...

Not sure what they do these days, but we used to just take the trucks across the track to a service road near the Upper Paddock.  That's why if you were a main race like GT or F3 you often got stuck until the end of the day, didn't always make an advantage to be in the Garages.  Might have changed - but certainly that's how it used to work way back in the early 2000's.

We used to do the same at Silverstone as well.  And Spa we used to drive onto the circuit and when we left pretty much could drive the truck and support cars around the entire track - just managed to get the transporter under the bridges on the track. 🤣

I'm inclined to take the Macan (booked for August) to show everybody how the "mums Porsche, not a real Porsche, oh you didn't get a Cayenne... etc" is capable of.

I did a Porsche owners day at Abingdon last year just before lock down and had 911 owners asking "how?  What it can do is not possible"...  but if it's not a "race"...

remember this?!...well I did Snetterton today.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, good to give the Nismo a run out (even if she did get dirty in the process), and my passenger only swore once 🤣 (it was T, not Bex).

All staff friendly, and seemed more relaxed, and definitely less busy, than at Brands last year - safety car didn't hang about (we touched 90mph down the Bentley straight), and all drivers in the convoy were very well behaved. Even my passenger said so.
