A bit left field - but has anyone considered carbon offsetting their car - mine doesn't do a lot of miles these days, but conscious its also not the best thing for the planet either - feel free to slap me as appropriate

Can’t say it’s anything that I’ve considered Les. Also not sure that it is particularly morally defensible to pretend to undo a bad by planting a few trees.

I will merely continue to stifle any pangs of guilt which may occur from time to time. None recently, though.

That's quite interesting. However, how do I actually know that my £50 will physically lead to more trees being planted on my Zed's behalf and not lining someone's pockets, or being absorbed by miscellaneous costs?

A bit suspicious in these cases.

It does feel a little like paying to reverse something to allow it to continue if I am honest.  I now do less across all the cars we own than we used to do in a month - and use Public Transport more than before.  Just keeping the cars now for pleasure.  So I will continue to feel slightly guilty - strangely big 4x4's have always been targeted as polluting cars - if anyone ever looked at our CO2 there would be outrage 😍

I also agree I am not sure you do know which is your tree and indeed if its even been proved this is the answer to all the problems, trees need water and the more trees surely the more water they pull up - or is that the point - I am not a scientist to know.   But surely eventually that unsettles soil and affects the water tables?

Out of the four cars in our household, the (most polluting) Nismo does the least miles - on Saturday week, 12th February, I'll have owned it for a year and will have covered around 2,800 miles. The hardest working car is our C1 (zero RFL and least polluting along with the Aygo) and will have covered about 8,000 miles in the previous 12 months at next MOT. The C1 is the 'go to' car for pottering about locally (and not so locally sometimes) and my wife's commuter.

The Ateca (usually my daily for the short work commute) and Aygo are somewhere in the middle.
