2022 - Driving into Europe - Would You?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently planning a drive down to the Nurburgring in July this year. There's no problem with hotel accommodation nearby where we usually stay, and there's space on the Eurotunnel.

However, how much grief and faff could it be? Has anyone planned a Euro trip was well, or recently driven in Europe?

Interested in experiences and opinions.

Yep, two in fact :)

I'm also heading to the Nurburgring in July for the SRO Speedweek and then at the end of August, I'm heading back to Europe for an organised Road Trip (called Run2). We are starting at Reims and then the heading is currently unknown (only known to the organiser) but usually involves 4 or 5 countries and hopefully plenty of the Alps!

I'm hoping that other countries will start to follow our lead regarding relaxation of rules but it won't stop me going. I've had 2 road trips cancelled due to Covid, so I'm hoping it's 3rd time lucky.

2011 Gunmetal Nissan GTR Premium Edition - Litchfield Stage 1, Miltek Y-Pipe, Alcon Discs, Ferodo DS2050 Pads, Flat bottomed steering wheel
2016 Sepang Blue Audi RS3 - APR Stage 1 tune with High Flow air filter and Secondary Decat Pipes - I'LL MISS THE POPS AND BANGS (BUT THE NEIGHBOURS WON'T)
2012 Pearl White 370Z GT Edition - Invidia Gemini catback exhaust with burnt titanium rolled tips, Stillen Gen 3 Intake Kit, UpRev, 15mm Eibach spacers, Satin Black painted bumpers - GONE TO A NEW OWNER WITHIN THE CLUB BUT WILL BE VERY FONDLY REMEMBERED.
2005 Gun Metal 350Z GT, Alezan Leather & plenty of mods - GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

We're looking at four nights local to the track from Thursday 14th July, leaving Monday 18th. The Tourist Drive schedule shows that weekend open all day currently. Have been staying at Am Tiergarten in recent years but "no room at the inn" for the dates we want.

Missing going there what with you know what - the last visit was 2019 in the 540.

Always stay at Tiergarten when at the ring good choice.
Have booked a 10 day drive around the mountains of northern Spain in August. Booked all the hotels on booking.com they can be cancelled with only 3 days notice.

Have had to adjust the trip dates - will now be a weekend jaunt from Friday 29th July to Monday 1st August. Staying at Pension N-Ring, which is down the street from Am Tiergarten. Must be a new place as I've not heard or it before - worth a punt at "9.3 Superb" on Booking.com.

Yes that was a very sad event, but it shouldn't stop you doing something that you want to do again.

I'm looking at doing a road trip to Italy in July, with a stop at Monza for the WEC, a visit to Maranello and hopefully a stop off at Nurburg on the way back.

We'll be visiting or driving through France, Italy, Germany, Belgium and possibly Austria & Lichtenstein, depending on if any border restrictions are in place.

Not booked anything yet but will also use Booking.com and selecting places with free cancellation. Brittany Ferries have a flex plan for bookings, not sure about Eurotunnel (for the journey back).
